Talcott Mountain Music Festival, Music Under the Stars
Summer is the time of year when so many towns have concerts on the town greens for the benefit of the people that look for an evening out. Most are free.
For 5 nights in Simsbury CT, the summer concert isn't free, but that is more than offset by the special performances that are presented.
The Talcott Mountain Music Festival consists of 5 consecutive Friday evenings with music provided by the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. The musical styling's are all different as the concert series offers something different each week and guest performers are brought in to add vocals to make the night that much more pleasant.
This past Friday, July 7, the guest performer was a tribute band called Classical Mystery Tour and it sounded pretty close to the original Beatle's themselves backed up by a symphony orchestra.
The first half of the entertainment was all of the songs on the original album. How strange that sounds to a generation that knows little of vinyl, albums, and stationary stereo equipment.
There are 3 remaining concerts in the series:
Friday July 14, The Music of David Bowie
Friday July 21, Music of John Williams as Composed for Warner Bros
Friday July 28, Broadway A to Z, Show tunes from past and present Broad plays
It is a wonderful venue and the crowds appreciative of the performances.
Bring your lawn chairs or a blanket. Pack a picnic and enjoy the music.
The crowds are all enthusiastic and can get large. For the fireworks show they announced over 8,000 in attendance.
The full details of each concert as well as the ticket prices can be found at the Hartford Symphony Orchestra web site.
