What do YOU do with Food left in the Cabinets?

I just listed a house that is now a part of an estate.  There was food left in the cabinets that is unopened and bought recently.   Canned veggies and fruits, oil, sugar, spices, spaghetti noodles, jars of Spaghetti Sauce(unopened).. The executrix of the estate wants me to clean it out.

Do you think it is alright to give it to a food pantry, or church or salvation army to distribute to other that may be hungry.

I hate to just throw it away.

What would you do?

I would definitely take it to a food bank. It's unopened and not out of date, so it would be criminal to put it in the trash when there are people who are hungry.

One question, however. Why is this your job? Hopefully you're not also going to clean the house!

To create a paper trail, I would place all the food items on the table and take a few photos. Then email the photos to the executrix and ask where they want the food donated to. Keep the email message and reply.

The executrix must follow the wishes of the decedent. But people don't mention distributing household food to heirs in their will. If the decedent is leaving some money to charity, maybe the food should go to that charity.
