Babcock Ranch is the world's first solar powered town.

Babcock Ranch is not just on the drawing board, it is a reality.

Not only does this new town have seven builders who have homes ready to live in, but the town opened it's own school.

Babcock Neighborhood School opened on August 10, 2017'

First Day at Babcock Neighborhood School. This is a great video of opening day and children coming to school, you also get an aerial view of some of the town.

This new town has set out to be self-sufficient and it is not waiting for it all to be in the future.

The school is a free public K-8 charter school. Since Florida has an Open Enrollment law, out of district students are allowed to apply.

Each following year they plan to add another grade level.

Babcock Ranch is projecting to have over 19,000 residences and a population over 50,000 people.

So, the town is providing a great educational option for the families.

The town is built on the concept of providing clean renewable energy which includes Florida Green Building Coalition certified buildings.

Students of the school will have a first hand look the 75 MW solar farm and will gain an understanding of eco-stewardship.

The seven builders give potential home owners some great choices in size and style of home that will best fit their needs.

All the homes are built with sustainability in mind. This means that residents will have a greener way of life that is affordable and effortless.

The town has community wide standards. All homes at Babcock Ranch must receive a Bronze Standard of Certification or higher from the Florida Green Building Coalition.

Yes, Jane, it is impressive and is bringing the future into the now.

The town is surrounded by thousands of acres of preserve which gives an almost rural feel to the town.

Barbara Altieri Babcock Ranch is part of a 91,000 acre plot. 73,000 acres were sold to the state for creation of Babcock Ranch Preserve. So the town has 18,000 acres.

Thanks Debb. I do believe that as the Energy Efficiency for homes becomes more wide spread, Babcock Ranch will be a model for other communities.
