When I was actively listing and selling I hardly ever dealt with rentals. I found that they took more time than most sale transactions and frankly they weren't worth my time. They generally were difficult and the clients were pickier than buyers. So I knew I was going to call it a day and I got a call from a sweet man who really needed help. He needed a place to live and his budget was far below the norm in my New Jersey area.
I felt badly when I heard his story, and worse when he told me he was blown off by three agents before we spoke. I wasn't sure I could help him but told him I would try. My new client was appreciative and he came into the office so we could meet.
I checked the Multiple Listing Service numerous times a day and emailed my list of agents with whom I had a good relationship. About a week later a listing appeared and I made the appointment. My client was so accommodating and while this property left much to be desired, this guy was so happy for the potential to finally have his own place.
Long story short, it was a difficult transaction and while it finally closed it took a great deal of effort and more time than I ever spend on any deal. My client appreciated my help and I was glad to go out, really making a difference in someone elses life.
