Throwback Thursday: Family on Horseback
I guess I came by my interest in horses as a 9 year old rather honestly.
This is a photo of my maternal grandmother and my Mom on horseback (I suspect in Wisconsin where my Mom grew up). I'm not sure of the date but given my Mom's current age I am guessing this was taken in the mid to late 1930s. My cousin unearthed this a few months ago in a box of family photos.
And here I am when I was about 16 at a horse show.

No I haven't been on a horse in many years...the past time I think when my older daughter was quite young so that's quite some time.

What interesting photos.
Arizona has many horse properties and places where teachers help you re-learn skills. I often see on the larger acre lots, how majestic those horse riders look.

I'm impressed, Jeff. I have never jumped horses (intentionally) but I know the skill that goes into competing in such events.
Jeff, wow I had no idea you rode and have an interest in horses. Having grown up with them and competed nationally I feel a little more connected to you :) There's nothing like the feeling of connecting with them on a good ride, it's incredible.

We have tons of family photos just sitting in boxes. And many are not labeled and for older photos we have no clue who some of the peopl are!

We have a good number of horse properties here, too, some schools, polo fields, several big horse shows at the fair grounds, and so uch more. Not sure I care to ride again - too many back issues.

Yep it was a bit part of my life from around age 9 to 17 when I left for college. Lots of horse shows at different levels (A, B ad C), some combined training events, and pony club activities for years, with annual regional rallies and on teams at 2 national events in Nashville and Boston.

I agree (about the photos!). Despite everything being digital these days there is something fun about old photos.
