"I am so grateful for the knowledge of others. It saves me a lot of time, frustration and regret."
-Carol Williams
I am constantly amazed at the level of experience and knowledge among the ActiveRain membership. I am even more impressed with how willing members are to share their knowledge with others...how they reach out without even being asked.
On August 30 of this year, I reposted a blog originally written in 2016 about how much I regretted not keeping my blog domain active after I retired. I have regretted that for a very long time because I had so much content on it.
Much to my surprise, last Friday Ben DeHaven contacted me, after reading my post, and said he might be able to help me recover some of the content from my blog in spite of the fact it had been abandoned for several years. I was very excited.
After a few back and forth emails, I WAS able to access quite a bit of the content from my old blog. I am so thankful to Ben for reaching out to me and offering help. So far, I now have the foundation of 18 new blog posts based on content recovered from the old blog. I am so pleased.
Ben wrote a post about the process he used to help me. Here it is:
Internet Time Machine?! What Is The WayBack Machine?!
Thanks again, Ben. I so appreciate your help!
Absolutely, Nina Hollander . Helping each other not only benefits us as individuals but also the industry as a whole.

Hi Scott Godzyk ,
I love knowing when I travel there are always friends to meet.
Good morning Carol. This is amazing and very special. I will now go and find the answer but glad Ben was able to help you.
Hey Carol, I'm glad I was able to help. At least you were able to salvage a little!

What a wonderful, but not surprising story. So many giving members right here in the Rain and I love how you shared how Ben DeHaven saved the day.

An ActiveRain "Braintrust." I love that label, Carol. I'm glad Ben saved the day for you.
Another thing you might check, Carol, is whether your blogs were ever emailed to anyone. For a long time, I had my website set up to email blogs in their entirety to subscribers. I have since changed it to just the link and a small blurb is emailed so people have to click on my site to read it. Better for SEO. But I digress. If you emailed your blog, often people don't delete their trashed emails and you could retrieve it from friends.
It's what I was forced to do after this web guy in Oklahoma hijacked my website, then messed it all up, held it for ransom, and in transferring it back to me lost months of data. He was somebody I found through Active Rain, so beware.
But the Way Back Machine is helpful, too. So glad Ben was able to help you.
Carol,
What a wonderfulexperience you shared with us and your interarction with Ben DeHaven . Yes, there is a brain trust here. A

You give such a well-deserved nod to Ben DeHaven ... for the valuable service he provided, Carol Williams. I hope others are able to do likewise, if needed. You're so right about the "brain trust" thing here on AR. The depth of experience and knowledge available for the picking is amazing ...
Congrats on the Feature!

Good thing you found out about the wayback machine. I had to use that to recover several pages from the past when my main site was hacked with medical terminology. What's neat about it is it also indicates (I think) how much traffic viewed your web over the years.
Carol, you are right. For years this has been my go to site when I have a question. The depth of knowledge here is impressive. I suggest to all new agent they need to join AR.
I wish I had seen your post earlier but I’m glad others knew about it- that site is such a gem... it finds what we thought was left behind (and let’s us see our old fashioned web coding choices also).
Hi Carol
This sort of thing is one of the best aspects to being here on AR - there is a terrific brain trust always willing to help.
Thank you Ben DeHaven for a great tip - I'll be checking out your post!

I have his post open in another tab waiting to read it. I've always been amazed by the people here. Looking forward to reading it.
Carol Williams that's one of the good things about content on the internet...it's never really gone. Of course, that is also one of the bad things...LOL
That is so cool! Congrats on finding some of your posts. I sort of understand. Years back I changed my domain from JanGreenAzHomes to RelocatingtoScottsdale. A terrible move. The latter has so much competition that I could never get to page one. I was told not to have my name in the blog as no one would ever look for me, but they would look for Scottsdale. Certainly, but the price is VERY high to be on page one! I'll read his post. Thanks Carol!
Well I am not surprised Carol, I have found over the years, that the majority of the membership is very kind, giving and helpful. Glad this had a positive and happy result. Now with that said I am off to read the process, Endre
