Wishing each of you a season filled with thought-provoking ideas, true reflection, heart-to-heart connection, and deep intimacy with those you love - and the best part is that we each have the privilege of defining what all that means to us...

“Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen.”

― Brené Brown

We have all heard the phrase "you are what you eat" -

However, have you considered: "you are what you watch, listen to, and invite into your space."

The other night I was sitting beside a crackling fire, I was sipping raspberry tea and enjoying some background holiday tunes, covered by an extra soft blanket.

It was a fairly perfect moment and suddenly a family member walked in and asked if they could put on the TV.  "Sure, I responded."  Suddenly before my eyes I was immersed into a prison scene.  The music was suspenseful, the lighting was dim and one inmate was bullying another one.  Immediately my stomach tightened. Within seconds, I could sense that a fight would probably break out and I blurted out, "can you change the channel? This is so depressing!"

Our lives are bombarded with a variety of interruptions.
Commercials dangling the thought that we need this, or that to feel fulfilled.
Songs that speak of sorrow and heartbreak
Advertisements that try to whisper to our vulnerabilities that we aren't 'enough'

Yet, I have also found that in the midst of disheartening messages, there is always a glimmer of hope waiting to be noticed....Inspiration ready to be 'caught.'

For me, I thrive on deep connection and authentic conversation, so rather than submitting to just turning on the tube and being subject to the evening movie, I prefer to proactively think through what I will invite into my space.

So, during this holiday season, and beyond - may I invite you to consider the "ideas worth spreading."

Have you watched/listened to any TED Talks lately that brought you to tears?  Caused you to see something form a very different perspective?  Walked you into a concept that overwhelmed you with passion?

If you're looking for some thought provoking TED talks, here are two that embody authenticity and vulnerability in the most courageous way...

Brené Brown | TEDxHouston The power of vulnerability

Creating extraordinary intimacy in a shutdown world | Michael J. Russer | TEDxUniversityofNevada

Wishing each of you a season filled with thought-provoking ideas, true reflection, heart-to-heart connection, and deep intimacy with those you love - and the best part is that we each have the privilege of defining what all that means to us...

Cheers!
