Not So Speechless Sunday: Macaroon X-mas Tree $495!

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Napa Consultants DRE00893924

We were at Gelson's today, one of the best supermarkets in Southern and Central California.  They employ local bakers in their bakery section.  My favorite dessert and pastry maker is Victor Benes who rules the San Fernando valley and Westside Gelson's stores.  We both have found sweet memories of Benes' pastries from when we lived in Los Angeles.

We have Reynaud who took Santa Barbara by storm when he opened his croissant shop.  Our Gelson's and several other branches in Orange County of Gelson's gave him space for his desserts and other goodies.  Today, as we were checking out, I could not believe my eyes!  $495 for a macaroon tree?

On our next visit, I will inquire as to how many were sold. Wishing you all a delightful Sunday!

Hi Alexandra... you have no idea how much I miss my French macaroons. I always taste, but as yet have to come across one in the US that matched what I could get in Paris. Love this tree! It would not last long in my house!

Nina Hollander Reynaud is French...what flavors of macaroons do you prefer?  Since you have "le bec fin" when it comes to macaroons, I will send you some for your critical review.  Name your flavor,  We also have a branch of Ladurée in Beverly HIlls, but we will not be there this the end of January.   A.

What a lovely offer, Alexandra... my favorite has always been pistachio, followed by chocolate. That's why that macaroon tree just hit me so right!

Oh, that looks DIVINE! I love macaroons and was fascinated by the macaroon trees that the Ritz-Carlton decorates their entry with during the holidays! As much as I love them, I would not need enough to fill that divine-looking tree though!

Debe Maxwell, CRS Not sure I can relate to that purple (even though it is one of my favorite colors).  Thank you for sharing this photo for us.  I think I like the Santa Barbara version better. Happy Sunday.  A

Yes, the photo didn't really do the tree justice - the colors were much softer but, we were there during the evening and the lighting was terrible for a photograph!

I just finished watching the movie, "Chocolat," on Netflix streaming.  While that tree is made of macaroons and not chocolate, I couldn't help but feel it was aligned a little with the movie.

Ron and Alexandra- That is one heck of a tree but $495 is a lot!  We have a macaroon bakery on Atlantic and our friend's daughter loves to stop in for some when she's in town.

That’s my kind of tree, and I like how the baker put the cookies with the edges showing - how beautiful!

Alexandra, Diane and I love French Macaroons and next time you are in Beverly Hills, check out Thomas Keller's Bakery section at Bouchon, then do a blind taste testing with Gelson's Macaroons and Whole Foods. After that experiment let us know which ones you picked...key is "blind taste testing" Endre

Morning Alexandra.

I'm sure I've had a macaroon at one time in my life, but I can't remember when.

That is pretty creative, but I don't think I would want to pay that much for it, haha.  I enjoyed the macaroons that I had on Saturday!  Merry Christmas to you my friends!

Endre Barath, Jr. There is also Ladurée which is well know in Paris as the "it" place.  Neither one of us is a fan of macaroons, so I am not one to judge.  Reynaud is a respected French baker used to make great croissants (those I can judge) and then got too popular and the croissants became nothing...I am definitely a fan of Keller's Bouchon in Yountville....A

James Dray they are cookies with a meringue base  with a filling, so that they are very light and airy, they make them sweet and savory.!  Neither one of us is a fan. A
