Thank you Colorado Springs for 2018

It's New Years Eve Day and I find myself feeling nostalgic for so many things I enjoy and appreciate in Colorado Springs.  Actually proud of.  There is also this niggling in my mind and heart of gratitude for what is to come without the knowing of what that will be or when it will arrive.

I thought a fun list of things I am grateful for in Colorado Springs would be a great blog post for New Years Eve and the end of 2018.

  • Citizens in Colorado Springs voting for tax increase via  $5 charge on utility bills to pay for storm water needs.
  • Colorado Springs huge undertaking of road and bridge infrastructure & improvement (I know it gets old to see construction everywhere sometimes but I am so proud of us for taking this on).
  • Colorado Springs 2nd Strong Mayor John Suthers.  Mayor Suthers has done a great job navigating a very fast paced growing city with many needs, demands and diverse citizens.
  • The Colorado Springs Labor Day Lift Off. If I remember correctly it was a record year for turnout not only of balloons that were in the event but people coming out for the Balloons.  Fantastic event and tons of fun for so many.
  • The Rocky Mountain Women's Film Festival - after 30 years you would think all of us would know about this but I am amazed the number of people I meet and bring every year.  One note:  once you attend you will not miss another year so mark your calendar yearly for the 2nd weekend in November.
  • The Colorado Springs chefs.  We have so many new restaurants and chefs who are famous from TV shows to cook offs, recipes and events.  I am not sure I would call us a "foodie city" just yet but absolutely love the restaurants we have and that are coming.
  • Military in Colorado Springs.  We are so fortunate to have not one but multiple military bases here including:  The Air Force Academy, Peterson Field, Schriever Air Force Base, Fort Carson, NORAD (Santa tracking of course) and Space Command.
  • Pikes Peak Cog Railway agreement.  When the announcement was made that the Cog Railway was closing it felt like an important part of Colorado Springs had died.  With all that Pikes Peak is and represents having the Cog Railway coming back is a huge gift for locals and tourists alike.
  • Colorado Springs First Responders.  With all of the media exposure to just what first responders do I could not be more grateful to all the men and women who serve our City and our Community.  You have been with us in some of the best of times and worst of times teaching us how to take it a day at a time with a servants heart.
  • Colorado Springs Colleges.  We are so fortunate to have local Community Colleges and Universities who are giving opportunities to record number of student attendees and graduates.   At the same time they quietly receive award after award in the world of College and Education (a blog post of its own).
  • Colorado Springs economy and job growth.  Consistently listed as the top or one of the top places to live in the United States the recognition speaks for itself as to what we do and have  here.

There are so many more reasons to be grateful just for this year but I wanted to take a few minutes and note some of what I am grateful for in this beautiful city I love.  Thank you Colorado Springs and to all who live here and support her in being the best City she can be.
