For decades communities like Sun City, The Villages, and On Top of the World have set the standard for active adult living. A few years ago when Latitude Margaritaville in Daytona Beach was announced, that standard seemed to change.

Inspired by the music of Jimmy Buffett, Minto’s Latitude Margaritaville idea of escapism and paradise drew incredible interest among active adults. But when a community like Latitude Margaritaville gets announced, its becomes a waiting game for residents who want to live there, builders who want to sell homes, and agents who want to help both.

Throughout the construction process, progress updates announced groundbreaking, model homes opening, sales beginning, amenity groundbreaking, and finally, residents moving into their new homes. This summer, the first round of amenities opened, marking one of the last milestones for the community and leaving only the construction of the private beach club as well as the opening of the community’s retail center.

Now, those are almost here. Minto expects the community’s beach club, which is currently under construction, to open in the summer of 2020. Closer on the horizon is the retail center, which will see its first store, Publix, open in a matter of weeks. This represents a huge convenience for residents, who will now be able to drive their golf cart to get groceries instead of driving five miles to the nearest Publix. The retail center, dubbed Latitude Landings, has several other tenants lined up and many more will open over the next few years.

Beyond that, Minto and Wheel of Fortune will be partnering for the second straight year to give away a free home in either the Daytona Beach community or Latitude Margaritaville Hilton Head in South Carolina. One lucky Wheel of Fortune viewer will have the choice between a home in either community, a cash prize, or a home in a separate, all-ages community.

Many might’ve thought that with all the excitement, hype, and expectation, Latitude Margaritaville couldn’t have possibly lived up to it all. But now, a year-and-a-half after the first homeowners moved in, we can safely say Latitude Margaritaville in Daytona Beach has lived up to the hype, and it has changed the standards for active adult communities.
