"I don't have a favorite place. I have my favorite people."
-Unknown origin
Hello again all my ActiveRain friends. I arrived back home on Tuesday from my amazing 2-week Hawaiian cruise. I've been catching up so I can focus on some writing and post pictures about the trip.
Today, though, I am being sent in a different direction, inspired by a post written by Ken Tracy.
I recently saw a quote that struck me as the foundation of my life:
"I don't have a favorite place. I have my favorite people. And, whenever I'm with my favorite people, it becomes my favorite place."
As I said, I just returned from a cruise to Hawaii. I happened to be with some of my favorite people so it was that cruise ship and Hawaii that became a favorite place at that point in my life. Hanging out anywhere with those same people makes me just as happy and content.
This quote also brought back memories of my husband. As I commented on Ken's blog post:
"I remember when my husband was alive I knew I would have been totally happy wherever he was. And I was... even in the last days as he was bedridden and I was here taking care of him, totally content in doing so. Home with him became my favorite place."
Over the last few years, I have been able to meet and surround myself with some amazing people and I am totally content wherever I am with whoever I am with. Sometimes that is in front of the computer "talking" to you Rainmakers, reading and commenting on your blogs and looking forward to your comments.
For me, finding the people who give meaning to life is the key to happiness. That has been true personally and professionally. How about you?
Friends mean the world! What a nice group of friends. I'll bet that is one of the many special photos that were taken on the cruise.
Cheers to many more adventures with your special people.

Carol- I loved reading your post and it hit home with me. Where I am is secondary to who I'm with. I'm so happy that you enjoyed your cruise!!!!! And, welcome back!

Hi there Carol, agree with you completely. And when I'm with people who fill my soul, time stands still, and yet zooms by quickly at the same time. Does that make sense?

Hi Sheri Sperry - MCNE®
Everyone needs their special peeps, don't they? It's what makes life worth living.
Hi Steffy Hristova

Hi Anna Banana Kruchten - Phoenix Homes Sales
Hopefully, I'll be hanging out with you sometime this winter.
Hi Kathy Streib
We don't have to go far away places to find happiness do we?
Oh, I am sitting here with tears in my eyes, Carol. I couldn't agree more! When my hubby was in Denver, he would say, "You don't need to come out here again this week!" My comment was always, that there's no place I'd rather be. Even a dark, sad hospital, we bring our own sunshine and to me, that's what life is all about!
Great post Carol and I do love seeing the smiles from you and your friends. I KNOW you had a grand time!

My family is a very large part of my life. My kids are all grown now and have provided me with grandkids. I love conjuring large meals, and having us all together around the large table in my dining area. I have a small house with a big table, as one family member says. Food and family together create perfect love!
