One thing that I always notice when something tragic is going on in the world is how many stories of kindness come to light.Ā I am always saddened by tragedy but when I see the kindness that comes from it that gives me hope for humanity.Ā During this time of sheltering in place, I have really seen neighbors looking out for each other.Ā I grocery shop once a week and before I head to the store I reach out to my neighbors to see if they need anything that I can pick up for them so that they don't also have to go out.Ā I volunteer for an organization that provides food for the working poor and I was happy to hear that they are continuing to do that through this time.Ā I continue to volunteer and really like how it is structured in a manner that adheres to being socially distanced.Ā We have cones set up throughout the parking lot and those coming for assistance drive through the parking lot.Ā A volunteer approaches their vehicle to register them, then they pull forward and their vehicle is loaded with food.Ā It was a bit hectic, but it worked and everyone was so very grateful to be receiving the food.
Ā
When I think about Margaret's challenge for us to bring a member back to the Rain, I can't think of anyone that has taken time off and is worried about coming back because people might ridicule them.Ā If I did, I would surely encourage them to come back and I would definitely have their back.Ā I took a hiatus for a couple of years but came back without feeling any type of guilt.Ā Things come up in life or we decide to try something else and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.Ā ActiveRain is like a family and most of the members here are very caring and looking to assist other members in ways that they are able to do so.Ā One of the people that came to mind for me when thinking about bringing someone back into the Rain was Roger Mucci.Ā Of course, he is still around for those that want to speak with him, but he was kicked out of the Rain and thus cannot come back and blog.Ā Even so, I feel that a lot of people enjoyed his posts in the Rain as well as his comments daily, so I asked him if he would be willing to write a post for me to share in the Rain.Ā To my surprise, he agreed to do so and below is what he wrote:
Ā
"Well, here I am, making a guest appearance on ActiveRain as a courtesy to a friend.Ā I bet all of you that arenāt friends with me on Facebook thought youād never hear from me again.Ā WRONG!Ā Actually I didnāt think Iād ever be posting anything āin the Rainā again, but I guess we shouldnāt ever say never.
Ā
For those of you who do not know me, Iām the guy who posted a lot about ānothingā.Ā I was referred to as āThe Seinfeld of ActiveRainā.Ā Oh I didnāt always post about ānothingā but most of the time it wasnāt anything too important.Ā There may have been a post or two about a new job (which there were quite a few during my tenure), something about Thoroughly Modern Mickey (my Mother, who was probably more of a draw then I ever could be in the Rain), or trying to get you to participate in the āBe the Star of Your Own Movieā challenge (complete with Award Ceremonies, trophies, acceptance speeches and entertainment) that was an annual event for at least four years if I recall correctly.
Ā
I was also the guy that was not afraid to ātell it like it isāā¦..years ago a friend referred to me as brutally honest.Ā Thatās a pretty accurate assessment of me!
Ā
Anyway, Iām not sure when my account got disabled by Bob Stewart, but itās been quite a while.Ā At first I was pissed, but I understand why he had to do it.Ā It didnāt take me long to get to the āI donāt really give a shitā point, and I moved on.
Ā
So here it is folks, one final blog post that will hopefully earn Brian England a few extra points in the April challenge sponsored by my dear friend Margaret Rome.Ā Yeah, yeah, I know Margaret, I suck at keeping in touch, but you know I love ya!
Ā
In these troubled times, I wish you all the best.
Ā
Stay home!Ā Stay safe!Ā Be well!"
