Today the United States ends it 243rd and begins it 244th-year. The Declaration of Independence was ratified by the US Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776.
We loved seeing our flag proudly displayed at the lifeguard station in celebration of our county. The scene reminded us of the last line of the song, America The Beautiful, "from sea to shining sea."
"I see America, not in the setting sun of a black night of despair ahead of us, I see America in the crimson light of a rising sun fresh from the burning, creative hand of God. I see great days ahead, great days possible to men and women of will and vision."
~ Carl Sandburg
"My God! How little do my countrymen know what precious blessings they are in possession of, and which no other people on earth enjoy!"
~ Thomas Jefferson
"What's right about America is that although we have a mess of problems, we have great capacity - intellect and resources - to do some thing about them."
~ Henry Ford
