A Unique Gift That Lifts Spirits in 2020

This year has been one of the toughest years I can remember. And for those dealing with personal issues on top of national tensions and a global pandemic, it has no doubt taken a lot of grit to get through.

So, today, I'm introducing an easy way to brighten someone's 2020 holiday season.

It's the 12 Days of Christmas gift. And it was introduced to me eleven years ago.

Why This Gift Means So Much

In 2009, my husband battled Crohn's Disease. Except, at the time, we had no idea what it was. We simply knew that he was throwing up everything he ate, and the doctors couldn't tell us why. It took a long trip to the Mayo Clinic and an operation to help him. On the very same day of his surgery, my dad underwent surgery due to cancer. It had been an incredibly difficult year.

That December, we found the 12 days of Christmas gift on our doorstep. We had no idea what it was.

Who left it? Is it safe to open? None of our family or friends would fess up.

So, each day we unwrapped one gift, as the instructions told us to do. It turns out that each gift corresponded with the original 12 Days of Christmas song. And while none of them were expensive, they brought more joy to us than any other gift EVER has.

One year later, and we decided to pay it forward. A family member and her husband had undergone a year of failed fertility treatments. It was time to give the love we had received. Then surprisingly, we found that giving the gift brought us as much joy as receiving it.

In Conclusion

We never did find out who gave us that unique gift. And in the end, it doesn't really matter. However, I will be forever grateful for how much they touched our hearts that year.

So, what about you? Do you know anyone that has had a tough year? Can you touch someone's heart this Christmas? Spread some positivity and joy this season?

All it takes is one thoughtful gift. Or maybe 12.

What a wonderful idea. I appreciate this so much. It sounds like 2009 was a tough one in your household. I'm glad it's all past you now. As for 2020 it's sure been quite the year in  most households. :)
