Can an Agent Sell their Real Estate Business when Retiring ?

By
Real Estate Agent with KW Elite

.    Retirement seems to sneak up on most people. They believe they

will live forever . Tragically many Realtors reach the Vocational Finish

Line with nothing to sell ! How does this continue to happen to people

who have labored 40+ years in their trade ?

There are several Primary Reasons for this failure :

1. They have nothing to sell because they have never harnessed ( organize)

their business.  Since 2000 a real estate practice begins with a database.

A newbie is taught that a database of 2,000 people will yield 40 closings

per year . Most never accomplish this . A major reason for this failure is

lack of supervision by management, constantly drilling into them

the daily practice of Lead Gen and building up this database. This same

database is where all of their Settled clients will be housed and cultivated

until your next transaction with them . Remember NAR’s “Realtor for Life”

campaign ? This is how it becomes a reality ! A Realtor must take care to

build a BOOK of BUSINESS. You must have something to Sell ! You must

be able to visually demonstrate exactly what you are selling to obtain

sufficient Retirement Income . And you will have to finance it .

I’ve decided this enough to chew on in this blog post and will write 1-2

additional posts to discuss the other critical issues involved in a profitable

sale . So stay tuned and ya all come back now .......

Good morning Michel,

You have touched on an important topic because retirement does sneak up on you. Organizing  your business should always be the goal from when you start in real estate. You have to be able to measure your success with facts an data and then you have an account of what your business entails.

Hello Michael - you bring up an excellent point.  I remember one of the first real estate seminars I attended in the earliest days of my time in the industry.

Real estate agents don't retire, they become listless was one of the topics discussed.

While different than that, when our exit strategy comes closer to reality, proper planning becomes more apparent.  Sadly, it doesn't always happen soon enough.

Michael, when I brought Laura into my company, it was with the plans of semi-retiring, and when I wasn't in town and a client wanted to buy or sell, she will take my leads and pay a 25% referral.   I have already given her one lead, and she has closed two deals with him, and showed another yesterday.    This way I will have income even when I am old.

Great points about retiring as a Realtor Michael J. Perry as I am looking to go semi-retire myself. But I've always said my retirement is that "I want to work, not have to work!" has been achieved. I'm still finding myself to wanting help more people than before - LOL

Hello, Michael.

My retirement is around the corner, and I have been planning for the day after the last great depression ended some years ago.

Having experience selling my other non-real estate businesses in the past, I am for having an exit strategy for my current real estate business. You bet!
