Land Development Projects: 5 Benefits of Using Drones

Land development projects differ in size and overall complexity. Developing a public park is going to be far less involved than developing a mass scale commercial park. Land development projects come in a wide variety of forms with many benefitting from the use of drones. The need for in-depth mapping and knowledge of a plot of land makes a drone the perfect candidate to assist a development crew. Surveys and data collection need to be conducted with high accuracy, which LiDAR mapping can achieve. Small things like a tree or water line can lead to changes that need to be made late in the project. Below are the advantages of using drones for your next land development project.

Drone Mapping is More Efficient

A drone is going to be able to map an area far more quickly than a survey crew. The importance of not impacting data quality through this gathering process cannot be understated. Land development needs to map boundaries, survey land, and overall mapping for a construction crew. Being able to see what part of a project another team is working on across a site is another advantage.

Drone Utilization Helps Save Money

Large development projects have tight deadlines that have to be met. Missing these deadlines can cost a client an immense amount of money daily. A LiDAR drone can cover approximately 600 acres a day, per team, allowing for data to be gathered quicker, and minimizing the number of people needed on the project.

Improved Safety For Projects

Drones can help improve the safety of construction and development projects, especially on highway projects. The ability to reach areas that might require a worker to scale an enormous height can be eliminated. There are a number of infrastructure inspection teams that utilize drones purely because of the safety factor. Challenges like mapping undeveloped areas are no longer an issue with drones as they can reach nearly anywhere.

Monitoring Progress

A client might want to check on the progress of their development project. Being able to send them footage of how things are going from an aerial perspective can show how much has truly been accomplished. Monitoring progress is also important for project managers when it comes to the allocation of labor. Inspections can be done seamlessly to ensure small issues do not result in far larger issues down the line.

Drones can be immensely helpful in development projects by improving affordability, efficiency, and safety. The ability to highlight how much work can be done in a certain period of time can allow a company to continually sign large development contracts.

I drone every property I list...I say another improvement that drone photography adds is  1. clearer perspective of where the house sits (near a pond, or major road, or sloppy neighbor, wood, etc).  2. clearer perspective of roof and includes acturate picture of flat roofs which are often not mentioned when an agent is talking about age of roof
