The home I grew up in only had one bathroom. We were a family of 5 all sharing one bathroom. Needless to say, there was a ton of waiting and fighting to get a chance to get in the bathroom.
Now that I am grown and have a home of my own I still only have one bathroom in my home. However, the situation is much different now. It's only my husband and myself living in the home. Luckily, our work schedules are a little different and we aren't struggling to get ready at the same time. We are making it work with our one bathroom.
All that being said we made the decision to add a second full bathroom on our main floor. We had a small room off our kitchen which was being used as mudroom/storage space. Basically, it was wasted space.
We went back and forth with this decision many times. We know it would add value to the home for sure. It would also be extremely convenient because we have a pool. And because of the location where we'd add the bathroom, it was ideal for the pool.
The only real negative was the upfront costs. But we spoke to a few of our realtor friends who assured us it would be 100% worth the money.
Fast forward to a few weeks later, we are closing in on finishing this bathroom project. We have made it through all the dust and demo and now are one to the fun part of the project, the finishes!
I have chosen my favorite gray paint color for the walls, a bright white paint for the trim, opted for a floating vanity, and went classic with a white subway tile for the shower walls.
We are so close to the finish line and I cannot wait to be able to use and enjoy the new bathroom.
The moral of the story is my husband and I are so glad we made the decision to add the second bathroom.
