Every year we celebrate Mother’s Day on Second Sunday in May. This year we celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday May 9, 2021.
There is no clear data of when, where, and how Mother’s Day originated. Some historians claim Mother’s Day originated during Greek spring festivals for the mother of deities, Rhea. Romans celebrated their Great Mother of Gods, Cybele. Later, for a period of time people celebrated Mother’s Day the fourth Sunday in Lent to honor Mary, mother of Jesus Christ.
In United States, around 1850s Ann Jarvis an Appalachian woman, organized "Mother's Work Day" to raise awareness for mothers working in very bad health conditions in the communities. In 1914 Woodrow Wilson signed into law Mother's Day a national holiday, and this year we celebrate the 107 years birthday of Mother's Day.
For all you Moms, please know you are special and the core of the family, we all look to your guidance, love, and support.
