The Power Of A Touch Can Do So Much!

"Too often we underestimate

the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word,

a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the

smallest act of caring, all of which have the

potential to turn a life around."

--Leo Buscaglia

The book of LOVE by Leo Buscaglia has been a part of my collection of books since 1972. Fifty years has gone by quickly, but the ideology taught by a Professor of education at the University of Southern, California, a native Californian, a beloved speaker and author is as refreshing and rejuvenating today as it was the day it was published.

As I touched the daisy in my garden a bee buzzed by but it did not sting. Perhaps we were both in need of understanding the Law of Attraction, based on the theory that we create our world through our thoughts and that what you focus on is what you get or create for yourself.

Sure, I could throw this book out and replace it with a new copy, but would I do a disservice to myself because the words are the same and the only thing that changed are the images and ideas over time? I am reminded in 2022, day in and day out, about the landmark decision made on January 22, 1973 on Roe vs. Wade, 410 U.S. 113. It was April of that year I discovered I was pregnant. Abortion never entered my mind. The political system that Buscaglia preached  back then is still broken and corrupt. The most human thing a human can do is bring the life of a child into this world and see it smile and help it grow up. A daisy, like a baby is a welcoming creation and they deserve a chance to live in a peaceful world where they can multiple, and where there is love, and there is hope for future generations.

The greatest force in the world is LOVE. If we could all learn to love each other, then it might be a better place. Still, in the meantime, we can reach out with a touch, a hug or a kind word. A smile never goes missing either, people almost instinctively smile when you smile at them.

Wouldn't the world be grand if everyone learned to love and be kind. Smiles really are infectious. Thanks for your lovely comment.

Thank you for the wonderful post.  I have a few of those "collectable" books.  They are way too valuable to replace with a new copy. 🙂

Raymond Henson, eXp Realty - just because something is old doesn't make it less valuable. This book has been a part of my life's journey! I'm glad you get it and understand.

That's a lovely quote from Leo Buscaglia.  I realized I hadn't heard anything from him lately.  I Googled and found out he passed in 1998.  I had no idea!

Myrl Jeffcoat - Leo Buscaglia was as pure as the first fallen snow. He really learned by living and he lived out his life's purpose. Can you imagine sitting in a classroom and learning from him?

Good morning, Patricia... a touch, a hug, a smile... all free and easy to give and all can make the world of difference in someone's day. As for the abortion issue... don't get me started. And now they want to say "my decision" not "my choice," as if that changes anything.

Nina Hollander, Broker - Delusion is toxic and contagious, and that's all I'll say about that. Human love, a touch, hug, and a smile is all about equal opportunity and free!

Although I am not a reader Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP I can say that I actually remember this book from back in the 70's. Maybe it is precisely because I have read so few books and this one did touch me indeed.

Patricia your last paragraph is very well stated.  I don't have a problem with everyone woman or man having a choice over there own body.  However, in the case of an abortion it is not their life or body they are choosing to end.  They are depriving the life and body they are being from being given the opportunity to have the right to choose that they demand for themselves.

Bob "RealMan" Timm - Leo Buscaglia had the heart of gold and could speak and write with such profound clarity. He wrote several books. This one called Love went straight to my heart. I'm glad to know you read it and that it touched your soul.

George Souto - thank you for your heartfelt comment. All creation, especially humans come into this world with inherent value. Every life has a right to live. An infant learns more in one year than some adults in a lifetime.

Love the quote. I remember reading that book...I no longer have it as you do. I agree that you shouldn't buy a new one. Treasure your original copy!
