Home. Again. . .

Home.  Again.

Shared Stories. . .

Each of us has a story.  There seems to be many tales.  They are spoken about and listened to.  Some are short, quickly delivering a message.  Others seem quite lengthy.  Ponder-plentiful. Perhaps.

An increase in heft does not necessarily mean the topic is worthy of its additional weight.   Today, I am thinking of home.  While it may not be complete, I believe the topic is covered well in the following quotes:

If light is in your heart

you will find your way home.

Rumi

We are just walking each other home

Ram Dass

Charity should begin at home

but

should not end there.

Thomas Fuller

As often demonstrated, the same thoughts can exist with different people and at different times, here is something quite similar:

Charity should begin at home but should not stay there.

Phillips Brooks

And with the upcoming World Series, these words seem appropriate.  Baseball-wise and “just because”:

Never make your home in a place.

Make your home inside your own head.

You’ll find what you need to furnish it -

memory, friends you can trust, love of learning,

and other such things.

That way

it will go with you wherever you journey.

Ted Williams

Michael, great list of HOME quotes today, but I have always believed - home is where your heart is.    Don't really follow baseball, and wouldn't even know who is the home stretch.

Joan Cox - while I am not much of a sports fan or baseball specifically, this time of year does seem to have a seasonal influence on pondering.  Non-sensical and sensible.

Hi Michael,

As I read your post, I was thinking about how I feel regarding "home."  I scrolled down and saw the quote I was thinking of.  Grant Schneider had the quote in his comment.  "Home is where the heart is." I might add the word family to that quote.  It is all about family.  I know many people who have moved from their "home" to make a home closer to family.

Hi Michael Jacobs, I like all the quotes you've selected but the one by Ted Williams is my favorite. When I was young, the word "home" meant the place I was born, however, I quickly learned a place you call "home" can be a closet, a little room on a ship, it is where you feel safe, comfortable, a place you look forward to going to sleep in.

Beth Atalay - and your comment shows me that the quote from Ted Williams remains true for so many people.

And thank you for the feature in BananaTudes.  It's definitely an appealing place.

Hi Michael Jacobs. Loved all your quotes for today. Whenever I am away from home, I love hearing the words, "Welcome Home". The one by Ted Williams is great timing with the World Series coming up.

Jerry Newman - excuse my tardiness in replying to your comment.  I agree with you about the specialness of hearing "welcome home".  Although I am not much of a baseball fan or sports enthusiast, I can appreciate the sentiment of Ted Williams in his quote.  Thank you.

Michael,

I know very little about baseball. I know, I'm boring! I never liked watching baseball; I'd prefer reading.

I'm here because I like to read anything you write! And learning new words.

Michael Jacobs, thanks for the invite to join the "club." I would like that.

And now I have a new word added to my "Treasure Words" book - "hole-in-none." LOL!! You amaze me!😋

Oct 28, 2022 01:04 PM
Michael Jacobs

Aura Alex - my knowledge of anything that has to do with sports is nearly nil - a real strikeout.  And definitely more akin to a hole-in-none.   ⛳

I remember as a child, overhearing my dad talking to my mom about why some people use baseball analogies rather than football comparisons was that the nuances of football were likely to difficult to grasp.  That was a lightbulb moment for me.  "That's me".  I am "some" of those people.  Aura, if you like, you can join the club.  🙃

Aura Alex - I enjoy reading too and it certainly continues to add words and interpretations of them (many, admittedly, of my own invention).  🙃

Have a great day and a very special weekend.

We are enjoying the colors of autumn in Maryland.

Roy Kelley - while the colors and the temps may not be the same here as they are in Maryland, we are feeling the change in season.  Of course, like in so many places, weather often makes decision to leave with a whim so change can occur suddenly.  Enjoy your weekend.

Michael someone who has lived all over the world probably moved 30 times at least, I can say safely home is where I put my baseball cap aka hat at and consider it being home...my mother always considered Hungary her home and I recall many times my father would say home is HERE:) Endre

Endre Barath, Jr. - my mom still lives in the home she and my dad bought as new homeowners many decades ago.  She always said to me - moving again??  I haven't lived in as nearly as many places as you (or as many others) and never outside this country.  In life - it's all relative, right.  I like your dad's saying. It works.

If the Red Sox aren't playing I'm not watching, and even sometimes the Sox games are pretty much limited to World Series games.

As for "home"...I've been blessed to have had each of my four homes be perfect for the time in which I had them. Wonderful memories from three of them and creating new memories in the current.

Sharon Tara - well-stated thoughts on "home".  Thank you.

As for sports and baseball in particular, I am sure there are more fair-weather fans than those who faithfully sit in their seats.  The world is a big place.  However, there continues to be a line of people waiting to get "somewhere".    The snack bar, the restroom or to the exit.  Maybe that's just Los Angeles Dodger games where traffic in the parking lot means leaving may take longer than the game.
