Many time management educators encourage you to say No to requests or things people ask of you. And I understand the thinking behind that, saying No allows you to say yes to those things that you enjoy and earn you money. But, it can become a bad habit, in that you say No to everything.
This is my last gratitude post for the month, because in a few days I will be saying Yes to my next big adventure at my wedding on Sunday. To say I was nervous when I asked my fiancé to marry me is no understatement. We are both older, lived our lives and bring our baggage along with us. But, we also both understand that. I was not sure for a long time that I wanted to get remarried, having been divorced not that long ago. I also had planned to move to Europe after my divorce, but that plan got changed because of events happening beyond my control, like Brexit and COVID.
But, that allowed me to meet Annie and to say Yes to this next stage of my life. She asked me to travel, I said YES, and have been on some amazing trips through COVID. We visited Key West, Orlando, the Maldives, where we got to eat at an underwater restaurant, France, Iceland, Ecuador and the Galapagos.
She loves music and invited me to concerts, I have never been to a rock concert in my life, I said YES and we went to see the Doobie Brothers 50th Anniversary Concert Tour. we saw a Bruce Springsteen Tribute Band, and got to listen after three years of waiting the The Ringo Starr All Star Band. It encouraged me to get tickets for Andrea Bocelli and The Two Cellos and Annie said YES.
We have had some amazing meals and wines with new and old friends because we said YES. I have made many new friends as a result of meeting this wonderful woman who is still part of a Dinner Club after forty years with nearly all the original members; a wine and dinner club who meet monthly where we have had the chance to sample some fabulous wines from amazing vintages.
Now, I have the chance to begin a new adventure together with her as husband and wife and I am so grateful and excited. So, all I can encourage you is to say YES because you never know what you might experience and life is short. And I will be saying YES and I know she is going to be saying YES too on Sunday when we have our ceremony. After which we shall have another adventure to share with you all on my return.
