The largest springtime festival in the country begins in San Antonio this week. Yes, with the nice springtime weather and the pandemic restrictions removed, Fiesta San Antonio 2023 starts this Thursday, April 20th, and continues through April 30th. It all started back in 1891 as a one parade event to honor the memory of heroes of the Alamo, and to celebrate the Battle of Jacinto, which lead to Texas Independence from Mexico. This makes the 132nd year for celebrating the victory and honoring the heroes of Texas history.
Starting in 1959, the Fiesta San Antonio Commission coordinated the Fiesta planning activities for over 100 events sponsored by non-profit organizations, and over 75,000 volunteers who support all the events. Millions of partygoers have turned out for what has become a real Texas sized festival which is celebrated every year in April. More than 20 percent of Fiesta participants have travel to San Antonio from out of state, and even the world.
The most popular events are the Cavaliers Night River Parade, The Battle of Flowers(which all started back in 1891) and Fiesta Flambeau Night Parades, the Fiesta Oyster Bake, and the Night in Old San Antonio at La Villita. It’s 10-day celebration with events going on all over the city. Fiesta San Antonio 2023 is full of cultural activities with a variety of foods, drinks, and entertainment for the whole family. Be sure to visit all the patriotic events which start on Saturday, April 22nd with the Texas Cavaliers Patriotic & Historical Ball, and San Jacinto Victory Celebration. The sports events start with the Kayaking on Saturday, April 22nd, and include other events like the Fiesta Dashhound Dash, Run for Beer 5K Run/Walk, and UT Health San Antonio Star Fish Dash, just to mention a few.
