The history of Occoquan as a town dates back to the early 18th century. Prior to that it was home to Doeg Indians, It has been a mill town, had one of the first pharmacies in the area and is still a vibrant town on the shores of the Occoquan Reservoir.
One of the jewels of Occoquan is Rockledge Mansion built in 1758 and now serving as a catering facility of Georgetown Caterers.
Occoquan Reach, a small enclave of town homes is within walking distance of the mansion - there are still town homes available for purchase.
