REAL ESTATE IS GREAT!!!

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker DiTommaso Realty

The real estate market may be down but there is always enough business out there to keep us busy! Everybody needs a place to live so whether the market is great or not there will always be buyers and sellers. I have been doing Real Estate for awhile now and when I got into the Real Estate profession "IT WAS GREAT!!!" I made so much money in just the first four months that I started that I was in a different world but nobody told me that it would go down when the winter months came near. I had to find out on my own that the winter months were very slow and that I would not be making that much money when those months came near. So I am writing this for all the new Real Estate Agents out there that are just starting out to make sure you bank your money for the slow months if this is the only thing you do for money. Sometimes, it's always good to have a back up incase of the months like that when you make little or no money at all.

It is ALWAYS a good idea to save for those less busy months! The story of the ant and the grasshopper drives home with me and reminds me that it is far better to prepare for the long winter than hide behind your fiddle and play all day.

Another good thing to think about is budgeting with an irregular paycheck. In real estate I may make $10,000 one month and $1,000 the next. If I don't have a plan for my money and where it should be going then I am going to be SOL when I only got a $1,000 commission check and I have $2,500 in expenses. Check out Dave Ramsey for his budgeting plan for irregular income.

You are very wise to budget your money because it is up and down until you understand how to steady the business to make it more consistant.  Great post.
