You may be thankful for many different things this Thanksgiving. Family, friends, your home.
Me, I think I finally got down to the real deal. When you do what I do, you realize that possessions aren't all they are cracked up to be. Your house is a roof and four walls which could be gone tomorrow...fire, flood, tornado, whatever. Friends, yes, but some come and go. But family, whether you love them or hate them are yours, and yours alone.
I am so thankful that I had my mother. She was the not only the one that brought me into this world, albeit with a little help, but who made sure I survived. Most people gave up on me at birth. That was before all the miracles they can perform now. She took me home, put me nearly in the oven (in July, mind you), kept me warm and nutured and most importantly, here.
I really loved her. Sadly, she's been gone over 20 years now. But, I never truly appreciated her when she was here on earth. She was a remarkable person in so many ways...and I feel her influence still almost daily. She was my only true ally in this world. She taught me tenacity, how to get from here to there, how to live the most courageous and expansive life I could and how to be gracious (even in adversity). What more could you want? For her, and so many others, I will truly be thankful this year. Treasure those among you. Think of those whom you would truly miss and make an effort before they are gone to let them know how much they mean to you. My humble opinion......
