Did Someone Say Recession?  Invest in Cozumel!

The hotel occupation in Cozumel jumped more than ten percentage points with respect to last week as a consequence of the "Thanksgiving Day" holidays that marks the last "long weekend" in the United States before the Christmas & year end holidays; the activity in the centers of lodging closed the week with 47 percent busy rooms.

On the other hand, for the industry of the cruisers there is evil news; although this Monday initiates a week of 22 ship arrivals, also it is predicted that the effects of a new "Northern" that could frustrate many of the tourists excursions, above all those that imply aquatic sports and navigation in boats.

In reference to the hotel trade, this experienced a good weekend reporting an occupation of 47.5 percent, up 12 points from the previous week, as a consequence of the last Thursday of November, that is Thanksgiving Day in the United States and signifies a "work bridge" that many take advantage of to travel and to make purchases.

It is expected that this be the longed-for start of the growth tendency for the hotels occupation in Cozumel, a sector that this year faced a particularly hard low season. Today they have cautious expectations for the comming year due in part to the international financial crisis.

Cruisers:

Monday there arrives at the island two tourist cruisers; the Carnival Fantasy and Ecstasy, that will dock at Puerta Maya.

A new cold front could affect the island this day and runs the risk that, in case to intensify the "Northern" from now to Wednesday, that will be, up to now, the best day of the High Season with seven simultaneous arrivals, that could be affected by the bad weather and could prevent delivering tours to the 15 thousand people that are expected to arrive that day.

I was in Cozumel about 15 years ago, while on a cruise.  Although I'm sure it has changed a lot, I bet Carlos and Charlies is still going strong.  Viva Mexico!
