Rivercenter Mall in downtown San Antonio getting a new look.

Construction is underway for the new look for the Rivercenter Mall in downtown San Antonio.  In what is supposed to take up to five years, the Rivercenter Mall (or "Rivercenter" as its called locally), will undergo some updating, restyling, additions, and historical remodeling.  The first segment of the process will begin at the "lagoon" of the Rivercenter (Commerce Street) and is expected to take about 14 months to complete.  It is expected to house several upscale restaurants and the first tenant is Fogo de Chao (a Brazilian steakhouse - which I recommend highly if you've never been to one) expected to take residence in Fall of 2009.  The new renovations are meant to shift the focus of the mall to entertainment, although all the plans have not been revealed yet.  The old Joske's building (last housing department store, Dillard's) will also be refurbished for new occupancy and expansion.  This part of the project is still awhile away though, projected to at least 18 months away.  I look forward to the new expansion and refurbishing...the Riverwalk area is one of the best features of San Antonio's tourism market and this expansion will give more people a reason to come and experience our beautiful city.

That area looks like it is going to get a great makeover.  Im sure Riverwalk will be a great destination.  Great photo !  Certainly sounds like it will increase tourism.  We would love to go at some point !

Christopher and Stephanie - Yeah, the Riverwalk is undergoing tons of revitalization and expansion.  The added parts to the mall will make it even more fun to go to the area.  And of course, we've always got the Alamo (I'm still looking for the basement though) right there.  If you ever do make it down here, pack up a cheesesteak for me and I'll trade you for a tour of downtown!
