Change is inevitable, adapt or die

This entry was provoked by a blog post by Rebecca Levinson that I commented on.  I figured it may be useful to others so I re-posted here.

In response to:  http://activerain.com/blogsview/787364/The-Internet-Debunked-A-short-story-featuring-Michael-Levinson

My background is in technology.  I was raised with it.  My father owned a Durango computer when I was a boy that cost $25,000.  I am willing to bet that we were the only family in our neighborhood to have a home computer in the early 80's.  I am a self proclaimed geek and am way ahead of the curve when it comes to technology adoption.  I realize that what I embrace now won't become main stream for another 2 to 4 years.  I dream far ahead into the future.  For example just this past Monday a technology company announced a technology that I imagined 10 years ago.   I had a problem back then and I brainstormed a solution.  However my solution required technology that just didn't exsist.  It is amazing to me the technology I needed ten years ago is just coming to light now but, the bottom line is that the technology is here and it did in fact come.

Since 2004 it became very evident to me that the internet would become a major outlet for video distribution.  You may think, how ridiculous!  We already have cable and dish.  Why would we (the consumer) use the internet as a primary video source?  Simply, cable nor dish can compete with the rich interactivity internet can offer.  Not to mention the avalibility.  If I were wrong, why do cable companies offer internet services via the same copper wires as your television service.  I believe they understand where the masses are moving.  What is the rule of business?  Change is inevitable, adapt or die.  What most Americans do not realize is the amount a dark fiber that criss-cross this country.  The infrastructure is there.  All that needs to be done is to turn on the lights.

When I mentioned availability earlier, I am not nessisarily talking about end user avalibility but rather content creator avalibility.  Today, right now,  a bright person with little investment can create and produce thier own "television" show and receive more viewership than most actual television programs that broadcast over the airways.  For example what about Lucas Cruikshank, a 15 year old with a quirky weekly show that has a viewership of 650,000 subscribers and each webisode receives over 10 million views.  Todays hottest TV shows don't even come close to those numbers.

The internet is very real.  We are just scratching the surface of this platform.  The masses are moving, slow as they may be but, they are moving.  For real... every Real Estate Professional needs to what Robert Kiyosaki would say "mind their own business."  Marketing with the internet is crucial whether we believe it is effective or not.  Adapt or die.
