Endurance: The Secret to a Recession

Key to Success that The Secret doesn't tell you about, It is the Secret to a Recession

Last weekend I was sick at home so I did what I love to do when I am sick. I plopped down in my lovesac and watched a movie.   I love adventure so I popped The Dark Knight into the DVD player.   The Joker was an amazing manifestation of darkness in this movie.   He was truly a freak.  The Joker threatened to killed people every day until Batman revealed his true identity.   After days of fear  Batman resolved to turn himself in.  While he was destroying all evidence that implicated his friends, Alfred confronted him.  Batman asked Alfred,  "What would you have me do Alfred? People are dying out there!"  Alfred replied, "Endure."

The Secret was an amazing movie that took American by storm and sparked a blitz storm of discussion.  People loved the movie. However, it led some people to think the only thing they have to do is think of what they want and they will get it.  My friends, the Bible even says... "Faith without works is dead."  You can't just think you will get something and it will appear.  You actually have to go to work.

Right now we live in an economy that is in distress.  If we were to ask Alfred what we need to do in today's economy, he would give us the same instruction: Endure!  When life feels like things are going down the drain, we need to pick up our feet and endure.  Not give up.

I n his book the Power of Focus, Jack Canfield discusses his story and the secret to his success.  In the movie the Secret, his success looked easy.  He just visualized it.  In the book he describes how he went to work every day as he visualized it.  His visualization provided energy and positive work effort.   His work and due diligence in obtaining his vision helped him become successful.   He did certain things every single day diligently even when it produced zero results for his vision.  But he knew that if he continued working, if he Endured, the results would happen, and they did happen!   That is the part of the Secret that people don't see or don't apply.  This is the part where the majority of people fall short of their dreams.

In your real estate career this principle of endurance is vital during a recession.  All of last year, the Utah Dave team created goals.  They knew that if they did certain things every single day, their business would skyrocket.   For an entire year they endured the struggles with banks and the economy.  Every day, we went to work striving to uplift each other, keep a positive mental outlook while improving how we did business.   A year later the local economy plummetted even further into the ground worse than the year before. Sales are down almost 24% from the previous year.  You would expect Utah Dave sales to go down as well... but NO, their sales are skyrocketing right now better than ever.  Utah Dave sales are up 200% from the year before.  All due to a little secret about the secret.  The Utah Dave team this past year is reaping the rewards from the laws of persistence and the rewards from enduring.

What would I have you do?  Endure!  Be passionate, proactive, and persistent!

Good message, Dave.  Its times like these that separate the wheat from the chaff.  The ones that are doing everything they can to service their customers are either not hurting or not hurting as much as those who just do the minimum.

To go along with your message of 'Endure', a friend of mine is fond of quoting this story:

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. "A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy.

"It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego." He continued, "The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you - and inside every other person, too."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

If you succumb to the negativity, then that is all you will see.  You need to rise above the negativity and see the unique opportunities that 2009 presents.

Dave,Great post

Don, great 1st response.

This is a great time to rise above and do all that we can. I have found myself "getting back to basics" focusing on client communication, reading my goals and affirmations daily and keeping to a dedicated series of activities daily that have provided positive returns in the past. I have had 3 clients in the last month just "fall into my lap." It seems the harder I work the luckier I get.

I put one foot in front of the other and let the chips fall where they may.  I can only control what I can control.

Dave, that is a great story, thanks.

Dave, great post. Every once in a while I randomly pick a state and a blog. Sometimes I like them and some I don't. Yours is definitely one of the better ones I have seen. Keep up the good work.
