What advise would you give yourself?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Rosemont Financial Inc

I know this is a bit off the wall, but if you had a time machine and you where able to go back to the day you received your real estate license.  What advise would you give yourself?

Would you tell yourself about the marketing idea that really did not work?  Or would you tell yourself about that client you should have stayed away from?

I would tell myself that follow up is everything…everything you will sell nothing if you do not follow up!!

Listen to what your buyers and sellers have to say - keep notes on all conversations as to better service your buyers and sellers (computerize this info)

- always follow up (whether news is good or bad)

- stay in touch with all of your past buyers and sellers

- return all calls and emails as soon as possible

- keep a to do list with you at all times - stay organized and focused -

-don't ever let floor time or open houses be down time if you have a slow day - take with you any work you need to catch up on, your leads logs and follow up, clean out your car, work on your continuing education, read anything that will help you move forward in your career

-always, always, always ask for the sale

-find a broker with ethics and integrity - your name is associated with theirs

Julie has a great list.  And I would add...
* Don't spend mony on ego promotion.  Spend money on promotion offering value or something specific to the prospects.
* Blog regularly to become known as your local real estate expert.

  • When a companies named House Values and Realtor.com come knocking, don't get out the checkbook.  Save yourself really big money by not subscribing.
  • Get your broker license.

Wow, great topic!! I would say to myself,

"Set firm boundaries!!! Make time for yourself. Value yourself even when clients don't" and "know when to say no and when to 'fire' a client".

I would say concentrate on building your web presence before developing mailing promotions.

I would have gone into owning my real estate business a lot sooner....My best year we gave to the broker a nice 6 figure income, and oh yeah, I would have bought up as much beach property as I could
