There is a lot of joy associated with Easter and their should be. The commercialism with chocolate Easter Bunnies and Easter Eggs is all fine with me along with Easter greetings as long as we are still made aware of why we are celebrating.
You may be saying to yourself, or me, a child is not going to understand what Easter is all about. I beg to differ. In the circle I run with even four year old children know that Jesus is the son of God and that he died for the things we have done wrong. They may not fully understand it but they have been taught it by parents who's primary concern is their Childs eternal existence.
Easter is so important to me because I believe the words that Christ spoke after His resurrection that I (we) too will be given a new heavenly body and that he is going to prepare a place for me in his/our Father's home.
I realize that this is all nonsense to the unbeliever but Christs rising from the dead is the most documented event in history proven even by sceptics who acknowledge the empty tomb, his being seen by hundreds of people after his death, and even recorded by Roman historians. Here is just one of hundreds of websites that offer proof of Christ rising from the dead.
That all being said and what it boils down to for ME is that I believe that all we see was created. From what I have seen under microscopes and through telescopes I believe that only a perfect being could produce all that we know and all that we do not know. I have chosen to call this perfect being God!
I want to be in this beings presence to thank him BUT just like matter and anti-matter can not be together absolute perfection can not be mixed with anything less than perfection. I will NEVER be perfect, my past and present prove it. I need a redeemer, someone who can/has paid the price for my imperfection/rebellion against perfection. That redeemer is Jesus Christ.
God can not see my imperfections because the redeemer covered/paid for my rebellion. THUS I can/am/will be in God's presence to thank him for all eternity because the one sinless man redeemed me by HIS love (and NOTHING I did) made me sinless before God.
If you had any difficulty following that at all I would be honored to visit with you about it. Remember this is what I believe. I am not asking you to believe it but I truly hope that you do.
