NM CowboyWhile camping and hiking in NM Debbie and I stumbled upon a quiet lake.  Much to our surprise a small herd of cattle were grazing at the crystal clear lake.  The cattle kept feeding cautiously watching us as we watched them.  There were no fences no rails just the lake, cattle and us.  We wanted to continue our hike to the north but a huge bull stood his ground, not moving away with the rest of the herd.  After a few loud snorts we decided he meant we weren’t going to cross the herds path so we backed down not … (51 comments)

Crossing Paths With Bear While Hiking In NMAlmost Wordless WednesdayWhile hiking in NM we crossed paths with this bear.  It appeared to have just come from it’s hibernation, looking thin and scraggly.  We were too close for our comfort as he walked about ten feet in front of us, knocked down a dead tree and began clawing out grubs to snack on.

These passionate purple flowers from Pecos, New Mexico were in abundance during a weekend hike to the beautiful High Country.  Not too sure what they are called but the color and texture is stunning, one is fully openend the second on its way.  If anyone knows what these are please share in the comments.
The town of Pecos, NM and the Pecos wilderness is an easy 1.5 hr drive from Albuquerque.
