The observance of Halloween, which dates back to Celtic rituals thousands of years ago, has long been associated with images of witches, ghosts, devils and goblins. Over the years, Halloween customs and rituals have changed dramatically. In the United States, the first official citywide Halloween celebration occurred in Anoka, Minnesota, in 1921.
Today, many of the young and young-at-heart take a more light-spirited approach. Glowing skeletons and lighted Jack O' Lanterns decorate homes, while children dressed in all kinds of costumes begin flocking out onto neighborhood (18 comments)
I typically keep my office pretty clean by putting my receipts all in one big box and the larger files and booklets in another big box. So when the first of the year comes, I am usually spending several weeks getting my records sorted, scanned, and organized. Does this sound familiar.
One of my colleagues told me she had bought a new scanner several weeks ago and loved it. Oh thanks I said but I have a pretty new scanner and it works fine plus it (14 comments)

The other day it was raining so Roy Kelley couldn't get out for the day so he kindly shared some of his photos with us. These are an exceptional group of photos and I think you will agree. Stop by and say hello to Roy.

This pelican was huge and was escourting the fishing boat in after a day of deep sea fishing. Pelicans are very smart and know exactly where the fishing box is on the boat. The Pelicans and the Cranes were jumping in and helping themselves to the fish until the Captain closed the box.
This is a colony where the Pelicans live and fish at Dana Point Harbor. It is a very nice place to come and visit, walk your dog, eat lunch at the park near the waters edge, go sailing or (8 comments)

birds: Beauty in the Desert
- 09/29/12 02:49 AM
Beauty in the Desert Last weekend, I drove out to the desert past Indio, CA. While there, the heat was about 112 degrees and walking on the sidewalk in flats, the heat was starting to burn my feet. I tried to get a few nature pictures while there.
As you can see the landscaping is very sparse but the trees are huge and very decorative.
Here is a huge bird inside the tree trying to get relief from the heat.
I have enlarged this huge bird inside the tree....isn't he big? He must find a lot (10 comments)
birds: Using Clone Tool on Ribbit

Using Clone Tool on Ribbit to Remove Unwanted Items in Pictures Do you ever take the perfect picture and when you download it, you find a something there you wish you could remove. If it is close to the edge, we can crop but what if it is right in the middle? So I have been practicing with the cloning tool and it works pretty well. First go to www.Ribbit.com and download your picture you want to edit. Here are some examples below. This is a desert picture of a bird in a large bush. My camera focused on the top (10 comments)
This woodsy vine with paper like flowers comes in a variety of colors and is mainly used for ornamental landscaping. Originally came from South America so it tends to freeze in the winter if the temperatures get too low. It is a beautiful plant but has sharp thorns so pruning can be a challenge.

birds: Too Bee in my Queen Anne Palm Tree
- 09/23/12 03:03 AM
Too Bee in my Queen Anne Palm Tree My home is landscaped with several types of palm trees which bloom in the summer. This is a Queen Anne Palm tree.
The bees flock to the tree’s flowering stalk which cause the tiny white flowers to float to the ground.
Here is a closeup of the bees flocking to the stalk. They were not happy with me hanging around taking pictures of them...camera shy I guess1

This morning is the official first day of fall, Sept. 22, 2012. It is my absolute favorite time of the year! I have been collecting pictures of fall to share this morning. Enjoy! The leaves are starting to turn golden tones and fall off the trees and the Mum flowers are in the stores and in a variety of colors so I fill my yard with all the colors.
The vegetables are still pretty and bright and make a good pot of soup as the weather is cooling off and of course the (14 comments)
Today while I was standing at the end of the pier at Huntington Beach, CA., much to my surprise someone yelled “Dolphins” and yes there they were.
There was a pair of them right in front of me and then dove into the water.
The pair popped up two more times but never any big jumps. I was so excited as I think Dolphins are very special.
Scientists believe they are the clue to secrets of our world. I have read they are extremely smart and have human-like (10 comments)
birds: Squirrels and Birds so Enjoyable at Southern California Beaches

Squirrels and Birds so Enjoyable at Southern California Beaches Yesterday, we went to the beach and drove from Newport Beach, to Laguna Beach and then ended up at Doheny Beach in Dana Point.
While walking down the sidewalk near the breakwaters, I spotted a curious white squirrel. It was peeping its head out of the rocks so I threw an orange slice and some bread crust. While this white squirrel was sitting there eating it, the birds showed up and a second squirrel appeared. Sorry guys, but that is all I have.
It was such a beautiful and relaxing (20 comments)
Recently we traveled to Pennsylvania, drove through New York and then on to Boston. I was fascinated by all the bridges we passed over. New York had so many bridges that I was overwhelmed. Even though we couldn’t safely stop to take pictures, I got quite a few from the car.
For many of you who regularly travel in this area, you may recognize these bridges. Most of us sell real estate so these bridges are just a way to get from one place to another and over all the waterways. California is (23 comments)
Over the past few weeks, our nation has suffered bad weather in the east and gulf and on 9-11 we had 4 Americans killed overseas. But this morning as I looked out my window and see the beauty of this hummingbird just looking up at the sun without a care in the world, I thought we must live life for today and appreciate the beauty around us.
No matter where you live, what state, rural or urban, there is so much beauty around us. We must stop and appreciate (24 comments)
My client has a fountain with Koi fish that just thrive year round. The Koi fish are so colorful and large! She tells me the only concern she has is that the wildlife in her area likes to sneak in the yard at night looking for a tasty treat. They made a screen to cover the fountain to keep them out the raccoons, foxes, cats and large birds. Every night they sit outside and enjoy the sounds of the water and watch the fish swimming and even jumping around! Such a lovely addition to a backyard. They (12 comments)
