In mid-September, EDAWN announced the newest arrival to our Reno economy: tech startup Alchemy. They join a long line of tech-related businesses making Reno their home. Just another reason Reno is quickly becoming known as the next Silicon Valley.
Who is Alchemy?Alchemy works with cloud-based Workday Student, Workday Human Capital Management (HCM) and Workday Financial Management higher education programs. Currently, they employ 35 people (including those at their Pleasanton, CA office). They expect to have as many as 70 people under their employ in the next three years. Of those, approximately 40% will be located in Alchemy's Reno headquarters.

Earlier this month, the Reno City Council met to discuss the Reno Station Casino.  Originally, the Station Casino's plans to build a gaming facility near the Reno-Sparks Convention Center were approved.  However, Monarch Casino and Resort (parent company to the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa) filed an appeal to reconsider these plans.  On November 3rd, 2016, the council rejected the appeal and gave the Reno Station Casino the go ahead.

Can you feel the excitement in the air?  After years of a repressed local economy, Reno's future appears bright.  In addition to the technology companies that have set up shop here, Reno businesses blossomed.  The influx of people to the area forced prices for Reno homes to increase and inventory levels to go down.  However, Reno Park Lane redevelopment plans were recently unveiled to City officials.  I'm very interested to see how this impacts the local housing market.
