blogging: Recognize This Face? - 12/09/22 01:58 PM
No it’s not a face on a wanted list but is a face easily recognized by most of my community because of my blogging.
As a Realtor I added blogging to my tool box in 2008 when the mortgage crisis hit. Real estate pretty much slowed to a trickle but I knew it wouldn’t last forever. The opportunity to devote and develop another avenue for name recognition in my community presented itself and I took it! I trained my community to go to my website to read my blog for market updates and community events. It took lots of print media and … (58 comments)

blogging: October 2022 Challenge ~ Casting a Smaller Net = Results - 10/15/22 04:09 PM
Thank you Carol Williams, Aura Alex and Leanne Smith for hosting the October 2022 Challenge.  It's been fun reading the entries!
When I first started in real estate in 1991 Austin was much smaller and I went anywhere business took me. As I gained experience and Austin continued to grow, I decided to cast my net to a smaller area and began geographic farming to my community of 1,333 residents in Canyon Creek.
I started blogging in Active Rain in October of 2008. The mortgage crisis was in full bloom and I was encouraged to join Active Rain.  I soon discovered I needed … (57 comments)

blogging: Thankful Thursdays ~ Look..... I Completed that Project! - 06/19/13 10:11 PM

Our littlest grandson, Hudson (affectionately called baby Godzilla by his mother), loves to bang on keyboards.  Of course, we happened to have an extra one so Paw Paw made a beeline to Hudson’s home to deliver one so Hudson could hone his skills!  Don’t you just love it?  Now Hudson can sit by his mom while she works :). That’s what Paw Paw’s are for!

blogging: ActiveRainPhotoBloggerContest ~ Don't leave me behind - 05/19/11 09:36 AM

Two summers ago Geno and I with our traveling buddies made a stop in Lisbon, Portugal.  Following our "must see" places we have placed on our bucket list we made our way to a small town outside Lisbon called "Sintra".  It's located in the Grande Lisboa sub-region and the Lisbon region.  Sintra is a major tourist attraction now as it is easily accessible from Lisbon. Our goal was to explore the Castle dos Mouros which was built in the 8th or 9th century by the Moors and reconstructed in the 19th century.  The views were breathtaking of Sintra-Cascais Natural Park and … (34 comments)

blogging: Just Sold in NW Austin Canyon Creek - 03/16/11 01:17 AM
Just Sold in NW Austin Canyon CreekFuture Canyon Creek home sellers: 11132 Rio Vista Drive closed courtesy of Dorie Dillard, Coldwell Banker United Realtors in Austin, TX
Last November I found my sellers a perfect, larger home right here in the community.  They were closed and moved in with plenty of time to enjoy the Holidays with family and friends in their new home!
In January we tackled what needed to be done to sell their smaller home in the neighborhood.  They took my advice: had wallpaper removed, walls textured and repainted, tiled the master bath, installed carpet and updated light … (25 comments)

blogging: Foreclosures: Look..Listen and Learn - 02/08/11 10:41 PM
Foreclosures: Look..Listen and LearnI listen to agents, sellers and buyers complain about how slow the banks are in dealing with short sales and don't seem to care if the homes are headed into foreclosure.
I try and digest all the posts Lenn Harley here in ActiveRain creates on the subject.  However, I have to admit I've still not gotten why banks are not getting these mortgages modified quickly and are allowing them to slip into foreclosure.  A friend sent me this video and what a visual....a real eye opener. Now I have the big picture and understand how many are feeling … (27 comments)

blogging: Just Did It ~ Rain Camp Houston - 12/07/10 05:47 AM
I and Christina Harmon, a friend and colleague, drove to Houston on Sunday in order to be ready to take advantage of all that Rain Camp had to offer in Houston. Wow...it exceeded our expectations!!
Ben Kinney from Bellingham, WA was guest speaker and did an excellent job of supplying cutting edge content!  His message was very relevant: "A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks that have been thrown at him" by David Brinkley.Ben emphasized the new farm area is the internet (which of course we knew or we wouldn't be attending).  Blogging is … (12 comments)

blogging: The Worst Habit To Have - 11/08/10 05:56 AM
We all have habits...some are better than others.  For many, routines help us progress through the day by getting those pesky rituals over and out of the way. You know like taking your pills, brushing your teeth, blogging on ActiveRain, drinking coffee, blogging on ActiveRain. You get the picture.
Dale Carnegie has a quote that identifies the worst habit to acquire:
"Feeling sorry for yourself and your present condition, is not only a waste of energy but the worst habit you could possibly have."

blogging: Agentgenius.com Scores Big - 07/06/10 10:50 AM
Agentgenius.com scores big
The free real estate magazine www.agentgenius.com is a site to check out!  They have great topics and are where I learned about Posterous.com a new site who is boasting they are trying to give ActiveRain a run for their money.
After checking their site out I feel they have a long way to go before that will happen! It looks like they are great for beginners looking to learn how to blog.
It's not like we don't have plenty of sites to keep up with but check agentgenius.com out and let me know what you think.

blogging: Hear The Music Before The Song Is Over - 06/07/10 12:01 AM

So many times we get tied up with our work, blogging and working through our lists we forget to take time and enjoy the fruits of our labor!  Making time for family, friends and things you enjoy doing can get lost in the shuffle of life.  Make sure you hear the music before the song is over!
Oscar Wilde made a comment that I think fits my husband Geno:
"Some cause happiness where ever they go: others Whenever they go!"

I knew I was coming up soon to the 300,000 point mark but didn't realize I just crossed!  May 25th, 2010 almost 18 months from joining Active Rain I've notched a new bench mark!
Commenting and blogging has become a daily ritual for me.  I've learned more about real estate, others thoughts and perceptions, marketing ideas and strategies, laughed a lot, made a host of new friends.  Thank you Active Rain for the enlightenment, energy and education you offer...what A Wonderful World it is (isn't that a song?)!

blogging: Computer Ponderings - 05/24/10 06:59 AM

I have a love hate relationship with computers.  I love how the computer makes my life easier by giving me the ability to access Active Rain; posting blogs, reading and commenting on other agent posts.  The ability to email clients, offers, closing documents etc.....wow, everything moves along quicker!
However when there are computer problems...it's down time!!  Decisions have to be made immediately for an alternative form of communication while the problem is diagnosed.  This drives me up the wall!!!
Susan Capps came up with some funnies that struck a chord with me:** A computer virus is a terminal illness.** To err is … (2 comments)

It's been a learning experience and has made a positive difference in my business.  I've made lots of new firends, learned different points of views on a variety of subjects, laughed at many a joke, shed a tear or two and realized there is always something new to learn!
The influence of the economy has affected some harder than others but ActiveRain is here to help all of us move to the next level.  The opportunity is here and we … (26 comments)

blogging: A Proud Moment in Time - 10/29/09 04:18 AM

Whoaa...this month almost got away from me without reveling in my one year with ActiveRain!  On October 27, 2008 I officially activated my profile and joined the ranks of bloggers on ActiveRain.
My son, John, and friend, Roxanne with Alamo Title, prodded me into joining.  I spent a few days getting my picture up, copy and links.

Officially on October 31, 2008 I stepped into the fray and shot up my first post "RRISD's Westwood High School Ranked #78 in Nation."
261 posts later I find many of my posts are written for Localism on Canyon Creek, … (10 comments)

blogging: Memories at Activerain ~ 7 SEO Secrets to Dominate Your Local Market - 09/16/09 09:57 AM
I started blogging on October 27th of 2008 so I don't have many memories to look back on as many of you.  However, January 29, 2009 an excellent post was made by Jonathan Washburn.  I checked it out and vowed to follow the 7 SEO Secrets outlined for us.  Of course I got busy and did not complete all the items advised.  In going through my bookmarks I found this post again and am working through the list.
This message is still a good one!  If you're interested in generating healthy traffic then all 7 points should be completed.  If you haven't … (16 comments)

blogging: BACK FROM VACATION...MISSED ACTIVE RAIN MAKERS! - 08/28/09 05:09 AM
I just returned from a wonderful trip to Italy!  I have great photos to share and if I can find my mind I'll get some posts up!  I've missed the sharing of topics and situations that occur in our industry. This morning I was reading Toula Rosebrock's post on her experience with a buyer on a final walk-thru before closing and Mary Douglas's post on drive-by real estate (I loved her photo) and realized how much I enjoy the entertaining interaction!Glad to be back!
