A more effective way to prevent foreclosures is the reduction of the amount owed by homeowners owe on their mortgages, such as reducing interest rates or postponing payments, a new report finds. Amherst Securities Group stated in a report presented this week, that when principal reductions brought mortgages closer to the market value of the home, borrowers were considerably less likely to fall behind on payments again and lose their homes.
