tips: Can a New Home Improve Your Sex Life? - 09/19/14 02:22 PM
The scene is set. Crackling fireplace. Homemade desert. Candles flickering. Drinks sparkling.
And then the spark that should be igniting between the two of you instead takes place in your old fireplace, sending black smoke into your living room and flames shooting up the chimney and out into your space, which then ignite your drapes and send you running partially clothed for the fire extinguisher.
Well that killed the mood.
You don't have to set the living room on fire to know that your house is in desperate need of repair and renovation. But maybe it's just not enough. If you're … (1 comments)

tips: Big Or Small: Which Size Home Is Best For You? - 09/19/14 02:04 PM
This can be a tricky question to answer. Partly because our needs change over the years and decades. After kids leave home, maybe smaller is better but prior to that, maybe a bigger home is what you're seeking–room for the kids, dog, and tons of the kids' sleepover friends.
The trends reflect our indecisiveness, too. Sometimes McMansions are on the rise and then there's the complete opposite: tiny, tiny homes. In fact, you can watch fascinating shows online about families of four with a couple of dogs, moving into these tiny well-designed homes or homes on wheels.
While that small may … (1 comments)

Water heaters generally have a lifespan of 8-12 years, but as with anything, the better care you take of it, the longer it will last. There are several easy "set it and forget it" tips that you can use with your water heater, like keeping the thermostat at 120 degrees, and always maintain two feet of clearance around the appliance. Water heater maintenance goes well beyond just checking the thermostat, … (2 comments)

tips: How To Get Rid of Cooking Smells - 08/15/14 01:47 AM
Does your house have housitosis? If cooking smells linger long after the meal is served, it's time to take action.
The best remedy is to prevent the odors in the first place. This is easily done through proper ventilation and air filtration. Your cooktop or stovetop should be ventilated with an overhead or downdraft ventilation system that is matched to the needs of the burners. But it's only useful if you turn it on your vented hood while you cook, even if you don't like the extra noise.
Grease or smoke and water create a tough film that won't go away … (4 comments)

Are you happy and excited about selling your home? Or are you dreading the sorting, packing and other chores?
Your attitude is contagious to little children. If you look at moving as an exciting adventure full of fun, new possibilities, then you're halfway to getting your children on board for the ride.
Most children don't like the changes associated with moving, so it's your job to get them looking forward to it. The younger the child, the less able they are to "see into the future" as you do. They tend to focus on missing friends and family.
