charles buell: It's Like A Runaway Train -- More Naked Home Inspector Photos - 07/13/09 10:02 AM
My old buddy, Charlie Buell, snapped mentally and morally over the weekend. Too much tequila with my home inspector assistant, Nutsy, I think. Charlie posted some of the most revealing images ever submitted to Active Rain. Boy, they left little to the imagination. We all saw way more of Charlie than we wanted to see. Poor Nutsy feels partly to blame for Charlie snapping. If you have not seen this rated-X blog post, that was banned in Boston, you should look here.
Since Charlie got so much notoriety for his shenanigan, I decided that I too, should post home inspection photos that … (35 comments)

charles buell: Renegade Seattle Home Inspector Claws His Way To The Top - 02/11/09 08:59 AM
Probably most of you do not have the same screen view that I have. Far as I can tell, most of us working in the rain pay the most attention to rankings in our own state. Speaking of our own state, mine being Washington, I was looking at the rankings today. Boy, what a big shocker, over to the right I saw a real renegade home inspector. You can see that view right here. You will be surprised at just how young and handsome the guy on the left looks, compared to the curmudgeon on the right. Must be about forty years … (28 comments)

charles buell: The FBI Is Still Looking -- D.B. Cooper Where Are You? - 02/09/09 12:04 AM
Recently, I wrote about one of the Pacific Northwest's most notorious residents: Mr Bigfoot. Today I am going to write about another northwest legend. If you do not believe in Bigfoot, then you have to believe in this one because it is all reality, no fantasy.
If you lived in the northwest, maybe anywhere in the U.S. and Canada, in the 1970's you will remember the name D.B. Cooper. Whether he is viewed as a modern Robin Hood (helping only himself it would seem) or an extortionist, he was very real. Just in case some of us have forgotten, D.B. (Dan) Cooper … (57 comments)

charles buell: Fremont Area Seattle: Photos Freakin' Me Out - 11/18/08 12:24 PM
Have you ever heard of spirit photographs? The concept is out-of-this-worldly and not something I ever gave any credence to prior to today. I guess I have to change my mind.
From the beginning: I had a meeting of the home inspector licensing board today in the Fremont District of Seattle. This is a funky area. It is known for outdoor sculpture and art, also coffee shops, quaint buildings, specialty shops, micro-breweries, wineries, Gasworks Park, liberals, aging hippies, or so goes the reputation of the district.
Two of the better known attractions are the sculpture of the troll that lives under the Aurora Bridge and … (16 comments)

charles buell: From a Frog to Prince Charles - 10/18/08 06:28 AM
I think that, within the real estate profession, there is a certain fascination with the horrors we home inspectors find. Some of my most popular posts are those that display crawl space horrors. These unsightly views are usually dead animals -- you name it, dead cats (always popular), dead rats (the most common) and other similar grisly views from sewage to fungus and many more dead animals. This interest, but from afar,  is not unlike the fascination with horror movies. The other day, I found a living creature in a crawl space that was not disgusting. He was kind of cute and helped make the lady next … (18 comments)

charles buell: Creepy photo -- The crawl space that made Indiana Jones whimper - 07/14/07 04:38 AM
Remember in the first Indiana Jones movie, probably 30 years ago now, where he said something about "I hate snakes."  People at AR, when crawl spaces come up, often talk about snakes. This is the best I can do. I borrowed the photo from a friend. We use it in class and I think it is a boa constrictor. The photo is a bit gross (beware of that) and more startling than anything I have ever found, or crawled over,  in a crawl space. In the home inspection training class at Bellingham Technical College, a small section of our power point is on … (10 comments)
