At Bellingham Technical College our next four week home inspector training course begins on February 4, 2019. Anyone interested in taking the course should act soon. "Thanks for all the helpful feedback on my field inspection report! And thanks for putting together a great course, I really enjoyed it."  LH  AT BTC, which is the only state college designed home inspection training course, we sought out  capable and dedicated … (0 comments)

We have one class in progress right now, students from the Seattle area and Eastern Washington. The schedule for the next home inspector training course, to be offered at Bellingham Technical College, is hot off the presses. The first course of 2012 starts on February 6, 2012.
The Bellingham Technical College course, the first course to be state approved, includes 40 hours of field training and 120 hours of the basics or fundamentals training.
Classes tend to be smaller, so students receive lots of attention and classes are informal. For additional information on the upcoming course, please call 360-752-8796 or 360-676-6908. … (3 comments)

washington state approved: Fundamentals of Home Inspection -- Bellingham Technical College - 04/03/11 04:56 AM
Bellingham Technical College offers one of only a few state approved home inspection training programs in the State of Washington.

The state law requires anyone who wishes to enter the field to complete a 120 hour course in the fundamentals of home inspection and, also, to complete 40 hours of in the field training. If a prospective inspector does not meet those requirements, then he or she is not allowed to take the state exam.
The next four-week program, offered by Bellingham Technical College, will begin on May 2, 2011.

Above is a photo of students participating in the … (2 comments)

washington state approved: Washington State Home Inspector Training -- Bellingham Technical College - 02/15/11 01:19 PM
In this day and age, even the state institutions have to have some flexibility. For many of the 15 or so years in which Bellingham Technical College has offered home inspection classes, there was only a classroom course. Then, about five or six years ago, we started including five real-life proctored home inspections with the course.
When state licensing laws adapted the final guidelines for training students -- 120 hours of fundamentals training and 40 hours of field training -- the state licensing board came up with a model that was quite similar to our course offering at BTC.
So you … (4 comments)

washington state approved: Home Inspection Field Training (40 Hours) -- Bellingham Technical College - 08/07/10 03:53 AM
Since home inspector licensing began in this state later last year, it has been mandatory for those people entering the field to acquire 40-hours of approved field training.
In addition to the field training, those individuals must, also, take a state approved course in the "fundamentals of home inspection." The content of this 120-hour course is regulated by the state of Washington. The first such course offered in the state was here at Bellingham Technical College.

We have been running the class every couple months with the advent of licensing.

Anyone interested in the field training, or the full … (4 comments)

washington state approved: Licensing Deadline Looms -- State Approved Supplemental Home Inspection Course - 04/17/10 09:10 AM
Time is running out for those people who are presently doing home inspections in Washington state without a license. As of July 1, 2010, anyone doing home inspections without a license is violating state law.
There are many who have, previously, taken home inspector training but the hours of training were not sufficient to meet current state guidelines. The applicant is down to the wire now and must have completed the supplemental training, and have passed the state exam, before July 1, 2010. Failure to do so means that said person will have to quit inspecting until he or she has completed a … (0 comments)

washington state approved: Washington State Approved Home Inspector Field Training - 04/01/10 02:41 AM
At Bellingham Technical College we are wrapping up another four week session of state approved fundamentals of home inspection training. Actually, two members of the class have just completed a state approved supplemental course as well and they are presently doing the 40 hours of field training.

Below is a photo that was taken recently. One student is checking the gutters and others are waiting their turn or looking at other exterior issues.

These field training courses are interesting and a learning experience for the instructors and the students. We get some interesting students -- tradesmen -- from licensed … (5 comments)

washington state approved: Home Inspection -- Physical Requirements - 03/04/10 02:15 AM
I am the program coordinator of the fundamentals of home inspection training program at Bellingham Technical College,

Frequently, in this economy and with people being injured on the job, I am asked by state and federal agencies that retrain workers about the physical demands of being a home inspector. As a result of interest in this topic, I have compiled the information below that I supply to potential students and government agencies.
Probably the heaviest thing an inspector carries around and lifts would be the ladder. These come in different weights, but if the ladder is long and going up to … (11 comments)

washington state approved: Bellingham Technical College -- Washington State Approved Fundamentals of Home Inspection Education - 11/01/09 02:33 AM
Take a look at the photos below, then I will tell you what they mean to anyone who has been involved in the Washington state approved home inspector education that is taught at Bellingham Technical College.

These photos were taken during the fourth week of the course -- field training. The first three weeks students are in the classroom, and at some labs, but generally they are tied down learning the nuts and the bolts of what it is that they are looking for. In that final week, the students go on-site with instructors and put to practical … (6 comments)

washington state approved: All Aboard -- Washington State Fundamentals of Home Inspection Training - 08/22/09 03:07 AM
New home inspectors, would be home inspectors, and those who are working in the field but are required to acquire 120 hours of fundamentals education prior to their being allowed to test and receive a license, have the opportunity to get that training in the near future. The next fundamentals course, the last one the school will offer prior to the September 1 date when many of the licensing rules become effective, gets underway at BTC on August 31, 2009.

That's right, the Bellingham Technical College state approved fundamentals of home inspection course, along with an extra week that provides … (3 comments)
