As far as hurricanes and dealing with prospective investors' fears of them when considering a purchase in Southwest Florida, I give them the following facts: The fact is that from 1960 to 2004, no hurricanes hit the Fort Myers area. That's not to say that we are safe from a hit. Charlie gave us quite a punch in 2004. But, we are talking about odds and the odds of of being hit are far greater on the East Coast of Florida, in Dade and Broward Counties. Great Golf Coursesin Fort Myers, Naples, too; not a shortage of golf courses in Southwest Florida. I haven't played much lately with my business, and August isn't my favorite month for playing golf. Just too hot, but in a few weeks . . . but watching some of the PGA tournament today was fun. The winner was Padraig Harrington, an Irishman, his second Major this year. He also won the British Open. Sergio Garcia came close, but no cigar. That first elusive Major win is still a work in progress for him.

Just the other day, I read a shocking story about a beach resort area in Italy. Apparently, two young girls had drowned and their bodies were recovered and laid on the beach, awaiting pickup by the morgue. Vacationers continued to drink, chat and enjoy themselves just a few feet from the dead girls as if they were not there. I feel sorry for those people, actually. I recently had a contract accepted on a foreclosure in Fort Myers, in the historic district. The house, a single family, is old, but very charming and the price even more charming. An Inspection was, of course, ordered and completed and as may be expected with an old, vacant house, there were termites. Minor damage from termites was also detected. The Closing is scheduled to take place at the end of this month. City Furniture is opening four new stores in the Fort Myers area. Two will open under the name of City Furniture and two will open under the name of Ashley Furniture. Good news for Fort Myers. But, four stores? People must be buying a lot of furniture these days. Well, the reasoning must be that if there are furniture stores in all areas of Fort Myers, then people won't have to spend much gas money to drive very far.

I'm off agiain today for showings. A very nice lady from Canada and her teenaged daughter, who wants her mom to buy a place where Kayaking is an amenity. Tennis, too. I showed her Luguna Lakes and Sail Harbour in Fort Myers yesterday. She loved Laguna Lakes and the whole complex is NICE.
