book recommendation: Book suggestion in time for the holidays--First Voyage - 12/08/17 09:41 AM
Many of you know our colleague, Kat Palmiotti, but did you know that her husband has written a book that's a good adventure story?
Opening in 1938, with the Depression still in swing and the world heading toward war, newly licensed Third Mate Patrick Welch is making his first voyage on the tramp steamer York Arrow.
The descriptions of standing watch, dealing with older, seasoned sailors and the variety of personalities grabs one from the get-go.
I can't give you a full review since I've just started the book, but this book could make a great gift for older teens and adults who enjoy a book … (18 comments)

book recommendation: Book Recommendation-The 10 Laws of Trust-Joel Peterson - 11/08/16 09:28 AM
I had the opportunity to finish reading The 10 Laws of Trust by Joel Peterson, and highly recommend it. This book should be required reading for business school students, anyone in management, and anyone who wants a well-run business. And what Realtor® doesn't want that?
When I first heard of this book, I knew it would be great, because I know Joel Peterson, a man I respect both for his business acumen but even more for his personal integrity. The 10 Laws of Trust, building the bonds that make a business great didn't disappoint.

The author's premise is that, "trust works to create abundance … (8 comments)

book recommendation: Raving Fans, the book - 06/20/15 12:58 AM
Raving Fans - something we all want, right?
Each of us needs to decide how we're going to earn those raving fans, and it starts with a vision.
The book, Raving Fans: A Revolutionary Approach to Customer Service written by Ken Blanchard and Sheldon Bowles is a short, quick read. Told in a parable fashion reminiscent of Surviving Your Serengeti by Stefan Swanepoel we learn important mind shift ideas, like:
having satisfied customers isn't good enough goods aren't sold; products and services are bought Decide, Discover, Deliver - 3 guideposts for us to follow the importance of having a vision the necessity of … (13 comments)

book recommendation: Season of the Witch - 1960s and 70s in San Francisco - 02/20/15 09:40 AM
There's something bewitching about San Francisco. From the time I was a young girl visiting with my parents, then being a teenager and exploring the City with friends, and later a young adult renting what really was a slum (I didn't care--I had a bay window!) the City has cast its spell on me.  I am not alone.
Since before the Gold Rush days of the 1850s, San Francisco has attracted both visionaries and malcontents, people with big dreams who were not afraid to take chances and people wanting to create a new and better life for themselves.
That hasn't … (16 comments)

book recommendation: Living the San Francisco Dream - Issue #13 - 11/15/14 03:18 AM
San Francisco – it's a city that entices and intrigues us.
We enjoy its excitement and opportunities, the parks and staircases, the unique neighborhoods, the people
We see the changes – some concern us, others we welcome and embrace
Many of us have memories of The City from years gone by, others have only recently discovered its charms
Today’s issue of Living the San Francisco Dream  departs from the norm.
Instead of sharing my experiences living here after many years in the suburbs,
I’d like to share a book, Cool Gray City of Love, by Gary Kamiya

book recommendation: San Francisco, The Cool Gray City of Love - 11/12/14 12:57 PM
Recently a friend came to join us to watch the Blue Angels perform over the skies of San Francisco. We talked about San Francisco, the changes we've seen, and a book I was currently reading, Cool Gray City of Love, by Gary Kamiya.
Since then he has asked me about my feelings about San Francisco, my "history" with the City, for my thoughts about the present day.
His questions deserved a thoughtful answer, so it took me a while to carve out the time to answer. Here's what I told him:

"Hello George,
 I’m glad you’re reading Cool … (7 comments)

book recommendation: Help--Book request for first-time investor - 03/11/09 04:49 AM
A client of mine, a very wise young woman who bought her first home last summer, believes that now is the time to buy her first piece of investment property. She's looking for a condo in the $200,000-$225,000 range on or close to the San Francisco Peninsula.
She's asked for a book recommendation to help her -- does anyone have one?
Many thanks for your assistance,
Lottie
