marlene bridges realtor: Circle Today's Date on the Calendar - It's a Red Letter Day - 03/03/09 01:49 PM

Today was a unique and special day for a couple of reasons -   It's a square root date.  It only happens eight *nine times each century!  Today is 3-3-09.
*Thanks to my buddy Joseph Lang for reminding me on this one!

This century's square root days are; 1-1-01 , 2-2-04, 3-3-09, 4-4-16, 5-5-25, 6-6-36, 7-7-49, 8-8-64 and 9-9-81
So, for some we may not see too many more of these square root days in our lifetimes.
Today was special for me for a completely different reason.  I must admit that three weeks ago, I wouldn't have … (8 comments)

marlene bridges realtor: Somewhere Where Everybody Knows Your Name - 06/28/07 12:10 PM
No, it's not Cheers in Boston.  It's a great little place snuggled in a corner in the OakBrook Shopping Center in Laguna Hills, California.  The first time you go in, you'll be warmly greeted by one of the managers and many of the patrons.  I was intrigued by the name modestly posted on the outside of the building "Yarn Lady".  I have a great friend who loves to knit and is always looking for new resources, so I went inside.
Behind that front door was a whole new world!  There were the normal bins and cubbies filled with beautiful yarns, but there … (10 comments)

marlene bridges realtor: VOTE NOW - Keep the Internet FREE - 06/28/07 04:48 AM
After reading William Johnson's post today Internet Tax Moratorium Expires this Year I became curious and wondered what we could do about this serious issue. William mentioned in his post that what prompted him to write his article was an article written by Jack Kemp.
After reading William Johnson's post and Jack Kemp's article, I became concerned, too.  The moratorium on state and local taxes on internet access is indeed due to expire in November 2007.  This Federal moratorium has protected all of us accessing information on the internet.  Internet users include a wide range of people including students, businesses, shoppers, … (6 comments)

marlene bridges realtor: The Answer Is - Dog Beach, Parking Meters and Credit Cards - 06/25/07 05:08 PM
The Question Is:  What is the newest innovation in the City of Huntington Beach?  Parking meters at Dog Beach that take credit cards!  Remember when you were a little kid and your Mom or Dad let you put the coin in the parking meter?  That was such a thrill.  Well, that's inflation for you.  What used to be paid in coins now can be paid using your credit card.
The City of Huntington Beach has just installed 15 meters at Dog Beach as part of a pilot program.  Two other cities are sharing in this pilot program, West Hollywood and Beverly Hills.  The … (9 comments)

marlene bridges realtor: June Weddings By The Sea - 06/24/07 06:10 AM
June brings with it a season of new beginnings.  The first day of summer, graduations, and weddings...lots of weddings.  As I was out and about this week, I went to one of my favorite spots to grab a photo of Dana Harbor.  To my surprise, there was a very touching wedding ceremony taking place in the gazebo overlooking the harbor.  Friday afternoon about 5;:30 p.m.  a beautiful bride, her handsome groom, a minister, a guitarist and two witnesses  occupied the little gazebo overlooking the harbor.  There they were, the picture of great happiness with their hopes and dreams spread out before … (13 comments)

marlene bridges realtor: Tonight's 20/20 Was Nearly 2 Year Old Re-Run - 06/22/07 06:38 PM
There were a couple of blogs 6/22 Ana Connell's 20/20Tonight!  and Maurice McLaughlin's 20/20 REAL ESTATE SEGMENT TONIGHT-CLEAR VISION? giving us a head's up that 20/20 would be airing a show on whether it was necessary to use a  REALTOR® when selling a home.  Sadly, it sounds like ABC's 20/20 is stooping to copycat journalism.  My Board of REALTORS® sen out an email today explaining that the program that was going to air tonight was nearly two years old.  Even if the facts were correct on the show, we are in a decidedly diffferent market now than in October of 2005..  I think it's great … (18 comments)

marlene bridges realtor: Taking Time To Play - 05/01/07 06:54 PM
In a world filled with so much to do, taking time to play often gets shoved aside.  Sometimes I feel like I am overtaken by "the tyranny of the urgent".  Something that I learned from coach, Joe Stumpf of By Referral Only is the concept of blended time.  You don't need to take a whole day off to feel like you've take a day off.  Something my buddy, Lynda Eisenmann and I like to do is toss our bikes into our trucks and drive down to the beach midweek.  We ride from Newport Beach to Sunset Beach.  We take along our cell … (0 comments)
