Here piggy piggy, time to go to market... in my freezer! Back in the old days, pig hunting meant strapping on the back pack and heading out to the forest at the crack of dawn to spend all morning trudging through the woods chasing after those elusive pigs. Pig dogs would lead the way and chase the quarry to the farthest possible corner of an impossible gulch, and you'd have to catch up and confront the snarling snapping yapping scene before the dogs got ripped up. Sometimes the best things happen when you least expect it - from the garden! Take a look at these beautiful big tomatoes! We don't usually get so lucky with growing big tomatoes and most of the time we are happy to have sweet cherry tomatoes from our Haiku Maui garden. The last time we tilled up this patch of ground there were some volunteer tomato plants, and we said - let's give them a chance and see what happens. Fast forward to now. Haiku Maui HI - Twin Falls Farm Stand - the movie! Not long ago I posted some pictures of this famous Maui north shore roadside attraction... now here's the 1 minute movie! TROPICAL FLOWERS FROM HAWAII Remember the jade vines from Haiku Maui? While I was there I took some more flower pictures. It seems that people can't get enough of these tropical blooms, so I will share some more with you. It's very easy to grow these plants in the warm climate of Haiku Maui. Last weekend we attended a birthday party for a friend in Haiku Maui - he's now 98 years young. In addition to celebrating his birthday, he was also celebrating his 1 year wedding anniversary and the opening of his art gallery. He makes some colorful oil paintings of Maui scenes, which you can see hanging outside his studio here. We should all be so lucky to have a long rich life. Last week I mentioned this upcoming event in Haiku Maui Hawaii ... the annual Flower Festival.... Haiku Ho'olaulea 2008 - was a resounding success this past weekend. This year the weather cooperated and it was the most beautiful sunny day you could imagine on Maui - so you know it was GREAT! I think the past few years the rain kind of dampened spirits somewhat, but not this year. We actually were up and at the fair just in time to catch the opening blessing, and the booths and vendors were just putting the finishing touches on their displays. You know what bugs me? So many subdivisions don't allow clotheslines according to their CC&R's. When did clotheslines go out of fashion, and why? What's up with that? I remember reading somewhere that if everyone in this country just hung up their laundry to dry, we wouldn't need nuclear power plants, as the amount of energy consumed by electric dryers equalled the output of our nuclear power plants. I'm sure it's not that simple, but we obviously could cut back a LOT by hanging up the clothes. Save power, save money, save the planet. Sure that's easy for me to say, … (30 comments)
