What's been selling in Makawao, in the upcountry region of Maui? This report highlights sales activity from the past 6 months. In our MLS system, Makawao includes the village of Haliimaile, and the Olinda area above town. First I'll give the general statistics, then I'll narrow it down to just the homes in Makawao town.

It's time for the year end market report about what homes sold in the Makawao Maui area. In addition to the town of Makawao, this also covers the Olinda area above town, and the Maunaolu Plantation and Haliimaile areas below town.

Sammy Hagar's Beach Bar Rum is made on Maui
Did you know Maui has a distillery in Haliimaile, a former pineapple plantation town? They make rum and vodka here at the Haliimaile Distilling Company, using pineapples and sugar cane grown locally! One of the products is Sammy Hagar's Beach Bar Rum.
You can take a tour of the plant, and visit the tasting room/gift shop for some unique items. This can be a highlight of your visit to Haliimaile if you're stopping by the Hailiimaile General Store Restaurant.

Looking for a fixer upper? Something you can work on? Make it all nice and new?
Back in the day when the sugar and pineapple plantations ruled the island, they built "affordable housing" for the workers. These plantation homes were very basic, no frills. Single wall construction, canec ceilings, a cesspool. This home dates back to 1930 so you know there's going to be a lead based paint disclosure coming.
There's something really charming about them though... the old multi-paned windows, the Douglas fir plank floors, the covered lanais, separate wash house. The stories they could tell!
