rainfall: My little orange orchard in Huelo, Haiku Maui HI - 03/30/16 12:36 PM
We love to be growing our own oranges in Haiku Maui!
While it's taken some time for the trees to mature, it's been worth the wait of about 20 years.  It wouldn't have taken so long normally, but due to many adverse conditions these trees were slow to grow and produce fruit.  We had to amend the soil and there were a few years when we didn't give them enough attention.  But since some time has passed, the ground is much more fertile and the windbreaks have protected these fruit trees. Now we can enjoy some juicy ripe oranges right off the … (16 comments)

Lush tropical landscape in Haiku Maui HI 96708
What a delight to see this Haiku Maui property with so many tropical flowers and plants - orhids, bromeliads, anthuriums, gingers, palm trees, bamboos and more.  It's amazing how much variety you can grow on just 2 acres.  The warm humid climate in Haiku is very conducive to the lush growth of all manner of plants.  Some love the shade and others love full sunlight, so try a bit of both.
As a Realtor on the North Shore I can see and appreciate a lot of properties with landscapes like this for sale.  A … (4 comments)

3 1/2 inches of rain over the weekend in Haiku Maui HI

Well just when I was bragging about the great January weather we've been having here in Hawaii, we got slammed with a weather system that dumped 3.5 inches of rain on us on Saturday and Sunday. Not just in Haiku, but other areas of Maui too. It can stop anytime!
On the other hand, we were needing some rain since it had been getting so dry and dusty, and the garden was needing watering daily. The catchment water tanks are filled up once again, and with the forecast they'll … (10 comments)

rainfall: How does water catchment work in Haiku Maui Hawaii? - 10/21/12 06:24 PM

In rainier areas, such as Haiku or Hana and Nahiku it's not unusual to have catchment water as your primary household water source.  There's plenty of rainfall to supply all the water you need, provided you have enough storage capacity.  You will … (3 comments)

Haiku Maui HI - Door of Faith Road video
On the north shore of Maui, in Haiku, there's an area known as Huelo.  One of the main roads in Huelo is called Door of Faith Road.  It's about a 35 minute drive from our main city of Kahului.  If you've ever wondered what Door of Faith Road looks like, then join me on this short video tour taken on the Realtor Caravan this morning.

As you can see, when you're in Huelo, you're in the country.  Horse pastures and homes share the landscape with lush tropical vegetation.  The road is paved and unpaved, and … (12 comments)
