photography: You can never over sell a house with photography - 01/21/11 03:41 AM
There are some seasoned ad copy writers in my business who can wax poetic with the best. Few can more elegantly expound the virtues of gleaming hardwood floors, or pontify so profusely the transcendency of a spaciously sprawling spread with  endless anecdotes, sticky and dripping with participle phrasing with as much weight as the windy word-smith known as the Realtor. (phew)

The problem with words from a stranger, notably one working in commissioned sales is, they are typically met with a healthy dose of skepticism, and in the case of pitching the particulars of a home for sale, often the subsequent visual reality fails to live … (13 comments)

photography: Your Pictures should be worth thousands of dollars - 07/19/09 07:47 AM

One thing there is no room for in our business is poor photography skills. If an agent isn't making an effort to present their product to the public in a professional manor then marketing isn't their gig. My first digital camera purchase, right after I came into real estate ten years ago cost me just under one thousand dollars. Today a camera with 4 times the image resolution and ten times the number of features can be had for under two hundred bucks!

I seem to be taking more recreational than real estate pictures lately but the camera always comes along to the cottage, vacations and when taking the dog for a hike. I have posted some of my more memorable shots to Flickr which have now accumulated to over five hundred images. More pictures than I took in my entire life previous to owning a digital camera.
A generation of budding photographers can never appreciate the patience of waiting until the roll of film was finally used up, finally remembering on a future trip to the drug store; days, weeks or months later, … (7 comments)

One skill a Realtor should have is an eye for a good picture and the best methods of capturing a scene be it a sunset or a three piece bathroom. Not long ago photography was a hobby requiring an investment in thousands of dollars worth of equipment and a dark room. Anyone can be a photo wiz now with a couple hundred dollar digital camera and some free photo editing tools available on the net.
Check out Flickr.com (link is to my flickr page) if you dont already know about it. You can post your images for the world to see, … (14 comments)

photography: :: Are your Pictures worth a thousand words? :: - 06/01/07 01:30 AM

A picture tells a thousand words as the saying goes. But, when it comes to listing photos,  bad picture can tell a negative story and can hamper your ability to sell a house for the best price possible. In CREA’s most recent survey about mls.ca, consumers said they want photos and lots of them when they are searching for homes online. But dark, out of focus photos are not what those consumers had in mind. On the other hand, high quality photographs can go a long way to market a home in its best light. The trick is to learn … (2 comments)
