nature: Hiking PA Series - Valley Forge National Park - 09/11/23 11:12 AM
This series of posts on places to hike in and around The Main Line and Chester County can be filled with countless places. I recently moved to West Grove and close by me there is Nottingham County Park, with plenty of space to hike, cook out, and enjoy nature with a pond for fishing and space to ride horses as well. A new PA State park is planned and opening soon Big Elk Creek State Park. But, I cannot miss talking about Valley Forge National Historical Park.
Most people have heard of Valley Forge, many erroneously believe a battle was fought there … (15 comments)

nature: Nottingham County Park - 10/10/22 11:13 AM
Just fifteen minutes from our new home is Nottingham County Park. This was the first Chester County Park and was dedicated in September 1963. Located at 150 Park Road, Nottingham, PA 19362. The Herrs Factory is not far away, and you can take a factory tour there as well.
You can download a copy of the park trail map here.
The park is 731 acres in size with trails, a horse riding ring, and horse trails, a fitness trail with 18 stations, the link above allows you to reserve a pavilion, and three modern handicap accessible playgrounds. There are also nine pavilions which … (16 comments)

nature: Chesterbrook, PA - 05/05/21 09:38 AM
I have been selling real estate since 2004 and lived in this area since 1990. I always knew Chesterbrook was a popular place to live, but it was not till last year that I fully appreciated some of those reasons.
When the pandemic hit our area, we were all told to stay at home, not to travel anywhere. I have always been a walker, more so the last few years and this being stuck indoors was very hard.
I moved to Chesterbrook in 2019, living on Valley
Stream Lane and from there had discovered a path along Valley Creek that took me underneath the … (15 comments)

nature: Grateful Friday - 10/23/20 08:59 AM

Today, I went for a walk, not one of my six mile jaunts, just a short early morning walk as I was meeting a friend for breakfast. As I walked I realized how grateful I am for the day, the wonderful colors along the creek I walk beside.

I was descending a hillside and just stopped and listened to what intially I thought was silence. But heard the crickets and other insects chirpping, then the cooing of a dove. As I stood there I noticed a single leaf floating to the forest floor, swirling around and around and thought it would … (16 comments)

nature: Valley Forge Park offers so much - 07/16/20 08:30 AM
When I chose to live in Chesterbrook last year I knew access to Valley Forge Park was a big reason why I chose this location. Easy access from my front door to walk in nature. I literally step out my door and start walking along Valley Creek. Almost every day this walk offers me something wonderful to be grateful for seeing.
Last night, as we were returning, I see something swimming in the creek, then realize it is a beaver. I have never seen a beaver other than at the zoo before and definitely not in this area. It was just swimming … (11 comments)

nature: Valley Forge Park through the seasons - 04/26/20 08:41 AM
I can walk into Valley Forge National Park from where I live, there are multiple trails I can use. I have always loved this place ever since we moved here from the UK, even if it is a symbol of the Revolution against the King of England. I love the wide open spaces, but I have come to love all the different trails, the wildlife and the views. Hope you enjoy my video as much as I enjoy the park.

nature: Spring is here and offers hope - 04/14/20 09:03 AM
I am lucky to live in an area where I can walk and access nature relatively easily even though living in a town house, apartment development. Today, after some strong storms moved through it is beautiful and I had to get out for an early morning walk. As you look around you, there is so much hope, trees are filling in with leaves, new green is visible as you look at the hillsides, ferns are sprouting. All offer hope, that life carries on as we remain at home, staying in place and keeping our distance. But like the seasons this will … (10 comments)

nature: Wordless Wednesdays - 11/06/19 11:49 AM
Walking down Mount Misery in Valley Forge Park this morning. Looking down between the trees the rising sun glinted off the water in the creek below as it flowed to and beneath the old covered bridge.
The hues of the colours on display were magnificent, greens, golds, yellow, oranges, reds, greys and browns and let's not forget the azure blue sky.
Truly a moment to connect with nature and realize the beauty that is all around us.
Have a great day, and get out into nature, you will be better for it.

nature: Saturday walk in Tredyffrin Easttown - 02/16/19 02:09 PM
Our weather has been topsy turvy in Tredyffrin Easttown, snow and ice earlier in the week, temperatures of 61 degrees yesterday. So with a nice clear blue sky, a rather brisk temperature of 38 degrees and a little time on my hands I grabbed my hiking boots and visited one of my favourite spots. The George Lorrimer Preserve on North Valley Road in Paoli/Malvern. One of the things I love about our area are all the spaces you can walk and get outside and enjoy nature. Buying a home here allows you to enjoy these spaces, national parks, township parks, state parks, private arboretum, … (4 comments)

nature: They'rrrreee Back - 09/25/11 03:32 AM
The Canada Geese are back, out walking this morning, I snapped this photo...with the mist across the field and the geese feeding it made me realize Fall is here.

One of the joys of living on the Main Line is we are surrounded by parks and open spaces allowing nature to live around us, deer, foxes, raccoons, groundhog, squirrels, all sorts of different birds sometimes they can be annoying, the deer especially, but it doers allow you to stop and enjoy nature right in your own back yard, sometimes literally.
