education in real estate: Can We Blame the Public ?....It Begins with Each of Us... - 07/07/19 01:51 AM
A recent post got this forum's attention on the subject of "Buying the Best" position in your local real estate market.  If you missed it...click here for a quick read. You can be a Five Star Agent...if you, the agent, chooses to "buy the stars." If you want to "own the market" in another way you can be on the cover of a magazine...making you appear to be the celeb agent in
your area.....for a price of course.
Maybe the "Claim to fame" is in a market segment...it can be "your neighborhood realtor" without living or selling in that specific area. Or … (27 comments)

education in real estate: Does Your Practice Have an Education Foundation ? - 02/22/19 12:58 AM
There are people who discount the value of "alphabet soup" after your name...claiming...they know what they know...maybe...or maybe they don't know what they don't know.  Alphabet soup refers to the letters that indicate the certifications and designations you have..the training and education that shows everyone the areas of your business in which you have had training.
One of the first courses in "extra education" many agents choose is an ABR... Accredited Buyer Representative. We decided early in our careers...if we were going to work with both Buyers and Sellers, having that education would be valuable.
We took a course one of … (28 comments)

education in real estate: A Well Educated Niche...Can Be Rich ! - 07/15/18 04:59 AM
. This is not a contest entry...there is a thing about entering contests that you are judging...and this month I am judging ...the "Riches and Niches"  contest...conflict of interest yadda yadda... so this is just an informational post that we hope will help you in choosing or fostering the success of the niche you choose or have chosen.
Our choice has been to choose niches very intentionally that are not "geographically oriented."  That is that we do not farm neighborhoods...subdivisions, condo complexes, etc. Choosing a niche...like Divorce...enables an agent to expand the geographic reach far beyond the immediate area in which … (33 comments)

education in real estate: How Important are Schools in Your MLS listing ? VERY ! - 06/30/18 02:36 AM
In our part of the world...one of the things very often missing from a description in MLS is the School System. Sometimes only the system is listed and not the specific elementary, middle and high school students would attend who would live at that home.
Whether you work in relocation or not...listing schools in a property description is very important. Parents may be choosing a house that would not require their children to change schools and need to know if it would be the same elementary or middle school as they attend presently.
Often in relocation, parents are … (20 comments)

education in real estate: You are an "Expert" Because..... - 06/29/18 04:26 AM
.   We all get the postcards at home from an agent claiming to be "the neighborhood expert" because they want to secure listings in the area,...not because they live there or necessarily know any more than any other agent licensed in that part of the state.
There are many opportunities for agents to become "experts"...to our minds that begins with education...and the education never ends for an agent to continue to claim that expertise.
Back in the day...if you chose to do short sales and had no education...it was obvious to agents who chose to take the time, spend the money, … (29 comments)

education in real estate: My Grandfather Used to Say.... - 01/10/18 05:16 AM
"There is going to come a time,  when there is a right eye doctor and a left eye doctor....things have become soooooo specialized."   I have to agree says she who has 3 dentists....one "regular gal", the exodontist...gotta love those root canals....and the implant specialist.
Each specialist recognized in their field and their communities for their particular area of expertise....and it got me to thinking about real estate...Have you "claimed your area of expertise" ?   Do you have a niche ?
Do people know that you are not just the agent ...who lists houses or the lender who works … (41 comments)
