Sixty-six artists are participating in the Día de los Muertos Exhibition. The exhibition will run through November 14, 2015, at the Bath House Cultural Center located on the East Shore of White Rock Lake in Dallas.
Día de los Muertos, one of the most popular holidays in Mexico, is a celebration of the lives of those who have died. Celebrations include preparing the favorite foods of loved ones; decorating with meaningful objects; and displaying photos. Mark your calendar. Hexter Elementary School in Dallas is hosting the White Rock Home tour April 25 and 26. The focus of this annual tour of homes is modern architecture. This year Six Homes will be open to the public. Check out the Sneak Peek at one of the six homes on tour. This is one of my favorite home tours. Many of the homes provide guests with an education about new building materials that conserve energy. The White Rock Home Tour features five contemporary homes this year. My personal favorite is the house overlooking White Rock Lake Park. Enormous white slab concrete steps separated by drought tolerant Sedum plants lead visitors to the 1,000 square foot deck and pool designed to take full advantage of the view. Modern-Shed created the modules for this pre-fabricated energy efficient house. The White Rock Home Tour benefits Hexter Elementry School. Today is the last day of the tour. My favorite place to unwind is the Dallas Arboretum located on the east bank of White Rock Lake. Leisurely strolls through the gardens or relaxing on a bench with a favorite book are a delightful way to spend a few hours any day of the week. Dallas Blooms, sponsored by Bank of America, opened at the Arboretum this week and will continue through April 6. Imagine the daunting job of planting over 500,000 bulbs! Now through October 31, 2013, music will fill the air, on Thursday evenings, at the Dallas Arboretum. Once you attend a concert with White Rock Lake glistening behind the Martin Rutchik Concert Stage, you will want to return every Thursday. This week, The Molly Ringwalds will be performing.
