Avon-on-the-Lake Garden Club will have its Annual Past Presidents' Tea at Avon Lake Public Library Gallery, 31649 Electric Blvd on Wednesday, Sept. 1st at noon. The program "Landscaping with Roses and Putting Roses to bed for Winter" , will be presented by Anita and Bill Solarz, Rosarians.
This past Sunday’s Americans with Disabilities Act picnic at American Legion Post 211 was celebrating a special anniversary. It was the 20th picnic in honor of the 1990 establishment of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which enshrined into law civil rights protections against discrimination for people with physical and mental disabilities. About 150 people were present for the event. Several of the guests were from Our Lady of the Wayside, Beach Park Tower and Guadalupe House. Cleveland Indians mascot Slider made an appearance, posing for photos with guests. The Avon Lake Good Neighbor Thrift Shop celebrates 30 years Avon Lake's Good Neighbor Thrift Shop looks almost exactly the same as it did when it opened 30 years ago. Alison MeaneyRegular patrons know the Good Neighbor Thrift Store by its welcoming volunteers and loving atmosphere.
The merchandise is still "anything a garage sale would have" and the storefront was changed (only slightly) sometime back in the '80s. One thing that has changed is store profits. With the increasing number of people in need of emergency services the Avon lake City Council has allowed Community Resource Services to use it’s donations for food, household gas and utilities to people in need in Avon Lake. The most recent article printed by the Avon Lake Press indicated that the City of Avon Lake has also donated $6000 to the cause.
